Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday virtually flagged off four new Vande Bharat Express trains from Varanasi, significantly enhancing high-speed rail connectivity across northern and southern India. The new trains include the Varanasi–Khajuraho, Varanasi–Lucknow via Prayagraj, Ernakulam–Bengaluru, and Ahmedabad–Udaipur routes.

The Prime Minister said the expansions reflect India’s momentum toward modern, electric, and efficient travel infrastructure, aligning with the Make in India vision. With upgraded suspension technology, bio-vacuum toilets, GPS-linked infotainment, and Kavach automatic safety systems, the new Vande Bharat fleet is expected to reduce travel time and improve passenger comfort.

The Varanasi–Khajuraho route, in particular, is projected to strengthen pilgrimage tourism, connecting the spiritual hub of Varanasi with the UNESCO-listed temples of Khajuraho. Meanwhile, the Ernakulam–Bengaluru service is expected to speed up business and IT travel in the southern corridor.

The roll-out coincides with preparations for the Winter Session of Parliament, where railway modernization and infrastructure spending are expected to be key points of discussion. Political observers also note that improved connectivity to Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh comes ahead of ongoing electoral activities in the region.

Railway officials highlighted that the addition of these services marks an important milestone, with the operational Vande Bharat network now covering multiple cultural, religious, and commercial link corridors across the country.

Local passengers and tourism operators welcomed the development, stating that shorter travel times and improved accessibility could provide a major economic uplift in hospitality, transport, and craft-based local economies.
