Civic body prioritises sanitation, water drainage, road maintenance, drinking water supply and urban beautification to ensure uninterrupted public services during the rainy season

The Rajnandgaon Municipal Corporation (RMC) has intensified citywide sanitation, drainage, drinking water supply, road maintenance and beautification works to ensure uninterrupted civic services during the ongoing monsoon season.
The corporation stated that regular cleaning of the New Bus Stand premises and drainage channels is being carried out. Public representatives and senior officials recently inspected the facility and directed authorities to further strengthen maintenance and sanitation arrangements. Waterlogging at the bus stand and other vulnerable locations is also being addressed through regular drainage operations.
To improve waste management, the civic body has established temporary waste collection points across the city, with garbage being lifted on the same day using JCB machines and tippers. This arrangement is currently operational in areas including Rani Sagar–District Hospital Road, Dongargarh Road, Mohara, Chikhli, the Municipal School Ground and other peripheral localities. Residents are also being advised not to dump waste in open spaces.
Following continuous rainfall and waterlogging in several low-lying areas, the corporation has undertaken large-scale cleaning of major drains using JCBs and sanitation teams. Temporary earthen drains have also been created where necessary to facilitate water discharge. Anti-mosquito spraying is being conducted in waterlogged localities as a preventive public health measure.
Road Repairs Underway
Repair work on rain-damaged roads has commenced across the municipal area. Patchwork is currently being carried out on more than 20 roads, while repair work on Medical College Road, the road in front of the college campus and other affected stretches will be taken up shortly.
The corporation said letters have also been sent to the concerned departments requesting repairs to damaged roads under their jurisdiction. Asphalt resurfacing will be undertaken after the monsoon season.
Streetlight Maintenance and Beautification
The municipal electrical team is repairing non-functional streetlights along Gaurav Path. Repairs to the divider on Medical College Road will be carried out alongside ongoing construction work.
Vegetation and weeds growing on road dividers due to continuous rainfall are being cleared, and plantation drives will also be undertaken on the dividers as part of the upcoming greening campaign.
As part of the city’s beautification initiative, faded murals on the walls along Circuit House Road will be repainted.
Drinking Water Supply and Mohara Water Plant
To ensure uninterrupted drinking water supply, the corporation cleaned the 17 MLD filtration plant at the Mohara Water Treatment Facility. During the maintenance work, water supply remained temporarily affected in some localities during the evening but was restored the following morning.
The corporation also referred to the recent chlorine gas leakage incident at the same plant, stating that the situation was brought under control promptly due to the alertness of plant staff and the timely assistance of the Fire Brigade.
Following the incident, the Municipal Commissioner and officials visited the site immediately, while the Mayor inspected the facility the following day and directed officials to strengthen safety measures. A notice has been issued to the concerned supplier and the private plant operator, directing them to submit a response within 24 hours.
Hospital Area, Stray Cattle and Sewerage Project
Regular cleaning and drainage work is being carried out near the District Hospital to prevent waterlogging. The repair of the hospital’s old parking area will be undertaken by the Public Works Department (PWD).
The electricity department has removed an electric pole located within a roadside drain near the hospital following an earlier request from the Municipal Corporation.
The corporation is also continuing its stray cattle management drive, with stray animals being captured daily from different parts of the city and shifted to the Kanji House, while night-time cattle removal operations are also being conducted.

Routine sanitation work is underway in several wards, including the Housing Board Colony at Rewadih.
Regarding the Budha Sagar sewerage project, the corporation said the process for constructing a sewage treatment plant is moving forward. A notice has been issued to the concerned contractor, and the matter has been referred to the state government. Fresh tenders will be invited after government approval is received.
Revenue Collection and Employee Salaries
The Municipal Corporation stated that the salary disbursement process for employees is continuing, with May salaries currently being released. Payments are being made on priority based on revenue collection.
The corporation reported that more than ₹1.5 crore in property tax revenue was collected during July under the revised property tax assessment system. Weekly review meetings are being conducted to accelerate revenue collection.
Notices have also been issued to contractors engaged through placement agencies, directing them to ensure timely EPF deposits so that regular salary payments to contractual employees can be maintained.
The Municipal Corporation appealed to residents to cooperate in maintaining cleanliness, avoid dumping garbage in public places and support efforts to keep drainage systems free-flowing during the monsoon.
