Rajasthan’s Arundhati Chaudhary scripted history by winning the gold medal in the women’s 70 kg boxing event at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland. With the victory, she became the first woman boxer from Rajasthan to win a Commonwealth Games gold medal.

In the final, Arundhati outclassed England’s Chantelle Reid with a 5-0 unanimous decision, dominating all three rounds to secure the title.

Her achievement became even more remarkable as she competed despite suffering from a 102°F fever before the bout. According to her sister, Dr. Charu, Arundhati took medication before stepping into the ring and went on to clinch the gold medal.

Reflecting on the final, Arundhati said, “During a nine-minute bout, you don’t think about fever or injuries. There is time to rest afterwards. Chanting ‘Jai Bajrangbali’ gives me strength.”

From Kota to Commonwealth Glory

The 23-year-old boxer was born in Kota, Rajasthan. She was the captain of her basketball team during childhood before switching to boxing. With limited training facilities available in Kota, she learned techniques through YouTube while receiving guidance from local coach Ashok Gautam.

Her father, Suresh Chaudhary, initially wanted her to pursue engineering through the IIT route. However, after witnessing her determination and passion for boxing, he extended his full support. He currently serves as a Havildar in the Indian Army.

Grand Welcome in Jaipur

Arundhati arrived at Jaipur Airport on Wednesday, where she received a grand welcome from sports enthusiasts, family members and various organisations. She was greeted with flower garlands, drums and traditional celebrations.
