In a memorable journey from the forests of Bastar to Ekta Nagar in Gujarat, 50 residents of Sukma district witnessed the National Unity Day celebrations and grand parade held in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. For many members of the group, the journey was special as it was their first-ever experience of travelling by train and attending a major national event.
During the parade organised in Gujarat’s Kevadia, the villagers watched personnel of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Special Task Force (STF) of Chhattisgarh Police march in formation. They applauded and cheered the personnel, expressing their enthusiasm as police personnel from their own state represented Chhattisgarh on the national platform.
First Train Journey Becomes a Memorable Experience
The group comprised 50 citizens from different villages of Sukma district. A significant number of them had never travelled by train before. Travelling beyond the familiar surroundings of their villages, visiting another state and witnessing a major national celebration offered them a new experience.

The National Unity Parade, organised in the presence of the Statue of Unity, made the visit particularly memorable. The villagers also visited the Statue of Unity and got an opportunity to experience Gujarat’s culture and surroundings.
Villagers Cheer Chhattisgarh Police Personnel
One of the most memorable moments for the group was watching DRG and STF personnel of Chhattisgarh Police participate in the parade at Ekta Nagar.
These personnel serve in challenging areas of Bastar, where they are responsible for security and maintaining peace. Seeing them march with discipline at a national event filled the villagers with pride. They applauded the personnel and encouraged them throughout the parade.
For the visitors, the occasion was also an opportunity to see the contribution of security personnel from their region recognised on a national platform.
Police Initiative Makes the Journey Possible
The special visit was organised under the direction of Sukma Superintendent of Police Mayank Gurjar (IPS) and the guidance of Additional Superintendent of Police Manoj Tirkey.

A 50-member group travelled to Gujarat under the leadership of Deputy Superintendent of Police Sapan Chaudhary. The programme provided the villagers an opportunity to attend the National Unity Day celebrations, visit the Statue of Unity and become familiar with the culture and environment of Gujarat.
SP Welcomes Villagers on Their Return
After returning to Sukma, all 50 participants were warmly welcomed by Superintendent of Police Mayank Gurjar at his office. He presented bouquets to the members and listened to their experiences during the visit.
The villagers shared that the journey, from travelling by train for the first time to witnessing a national celebration in the presence of the Prime Minister, had become an unforgettable memory of their lives.
The group members also expressed their gratitude to Sukma Police and the Chhattisgarh Government for providing them with the opportunity. For them, the visit was not merely a tour of Gujarat but an opportunity to experience India’s diversity, unity and national pride beyond the boundaries of their villages.
