Action taken in Nandai and Takapara as civic body intensifies drive against road obstructions, illegal encroachments and construction debris

The Rajnandgaon Municipal Corporation (RMC) has intensified its anti-encroachment drive to remove obstructions affecting traffic movement and rainwater drainage across the city during the monsoon season.
As part of the campaign, an alleged encroachment under preparation on Nandai Kotharpara Road was demolished on Wednesday using a JCB machine in the presence of Municipal Commissioner G.R. Markam. On Thursday, the corporation also removed six handcarts that had been placed along the roadside and near drains on the Old Bus Stand–Takapara Road.
According to the corporation, inspection teams are conducting surveys across various wards to identify encroachments that obstruct water drainage and hinder the movement of vehicles and pedestrians during the rainy season.
The civic body is also removing construction materials, debris and waste that have been dumped on roads and over drainage channels under the Malma Mandap drive. Officials said penalties are also being imposed for activities that contribute to public unhygienic conditions.
The action in Nandai followed a complaint that a beam was being constructed by encroaching on the road, following which the structure was demolished in the presence of the Municipal Commissioner.
The Municipal Corporation stated that the anti-encroachment campaign will continue across the city.
Municipal Commissioner G.R. Markam appealed to residents and traders to cooperate in keeping the city clean and free from encroachments. He urged people not to set up roadside stalls, handcarts or temporary vending spaces on roads and public intersections, stating that such encroachments obstruct traffic and increase the risk of accidents.
He also said that illegal encroachments hamper rainwater drainage, while storing construction materials and debris on roads contributes to unhygienic conditions.
The Commissioner warned that the Municipal Corporation’s enforcement team would continue removing encroachments. He advised encroachers to remove illegal structures voluntarily before action is taken, failing which the corporation would remove them without prior notice and impose penalties.
