In a powerful endorsement of Chhattisgarh’s tourism potential, Union Minister of Tourism and Culture Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat has declared that Bastar, once overshadowed by years of conflict, is set to become one of India’s premier tourist destinations. Speaking at the India Today Tourism Survey & Awards 2026 in Goa, the Minister highlighted Bastar’s breathtaking natural beauty, rich tribal heritage, and transformative journey towards peace and prosperity.
The Minister’s remarks, which have been widely shared by Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister Shri Vijay Sharma, resonated deeply: “Bastar is a gift of nature. If you have not seen Bastar, you have not seen India.” He emphasized that after decades of Naxal-related challenges that kept this paradise “locked away,” Bastar is now ready to welcome visitors with open arms, offering an unparalleled experience of pristine forests, majestic waterfalls, and vibrant indigenous cultures.
Bastar: Nature’s Masterpiece UnveiledNestled in the southern part of Chhattisgarh, Bastar is a verdant paradise blessed with dense sal forests, gushing waterfalls like Chitrakote (often called the Niagara of India), and ancient caves. Its rivers, hills, and wildlife sanctuaries form a living canvas of biodiversity. The region is home to diverse tribal communities whose traditions, art (notably the famous Bastar iron craft), festivals like Dussehra, and deep connection with nature offer authentic cultural immersion that few places in India can match.
