Police have announced a breakthrough in the Gauri Nagar cattle slaughter case in Rajnandgaon, reporting the arrest of 10 named accused and one juvenile in connection with the recovery of severed cattle heads at two locations in the city. The arrests come amid public anger and demands for strict legal action against those responsible.
According to the police press release, the accused allegedly admitted to killing cattle for selling beef and disposing of severed heads near the Gauri Nagar underbridge and Shitla Talab. Chikhli Police Outpost and the Cyber Cell jointly investigated the case.
CCTV Footage and Technical Evidence Led to Identification
Police said the investigation began after severed cattle heads were reported near the under-construction underbridge on October 12 and near Shitla Talab on October 14. Cases were registered, and investigators examined CCTV footage and technical evidence to identify suspects.
During the operation, police reported seizing two tools, a knife and a scooter bearing registration number CG 24 R 6360, allegedly connected with the incident.

The 10 named accused identified in the police release are Abdul Aleem alias Kanwa, Anjum Begum, Salman Khan, Mohammed Sakir Khan, Moin Gauri, Arif Qureshi, Salim Akhtar, Syed Nadeem, Mohammed Siraj and Mohammed Tauhid Raza Khan. A juvenile was also apprehended.
Police said the accused were produced before the court and sent to jail. Action was initiated under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and the Arms Act.
Public Anger and Calls for Strict Action
The incident has triggered protests and demands for stringent action. Members of the Yadav community and other residents have also called for those found guilty to face legal consequences.
A video purportedly showing the accused being taken away while being made to perform sit-ups in public has also drawn attention. The incident has intensified public discussion surrounding the case.

Municipal Action at Alleged Meat-Selling Site
Following the incident, the Municipal Corporation took action at a location allegedly used for selling meat. According to the information provided, temporary structures behind an existing wall were removed using a JCB machine.
The civic action has prompted questions among residents about how the alleged activities continued without being reported to the relevant authorities.
Residents have also raised concerns about tenant verification, the responsibilities of property owners and police monitoring in residential neighbourhoods, particularly where people have moved in from outside the city.
However, no separate official inquiry findings or conclusions confirming these concerns have been provided in the available information.
Questions Remain as Investigation Continues
While police have announced arrests and seizures, questions remain about the alleged meat-selling network, the possible involvement of other individuals and the duration of the activities under investigation.
Residents expect an impartial investigation and legal action in accordance with the law. Further findings from the investigation will be important in establishing the full circumstances of the case.
