Rajnandgaon Police Recover Weapon Used in Assault; Accused Admits to Crime During Interrogation

City Kotwali Police have arrested a man accused of carrying out a life-threatening attack on his father-in-law during a domestic dispute in the Atal Awas locality of Baigapara, Lakholi. The accused has been sent to judicial custody after being produced before the court.
Family Dispute Turns Violent
According to information provided by the police, the complainant lodged a report at Kotwali Police Station stating that on the night of June 1, at around 10:30 p.m., he had gone to his daughter’s residence with food for her and his grandson.
Upon reaching the house, he allegedly found his son-in-law, Durgesh Patel (31), engaged in a heated argument and physically assaulting his wife, Anshika Patel. When the complainant attempted to intervene and stop the altercation, the accused allegedly abused him and threatened to kill him.
The complainant further alleged that the accused then attacked him on the head with a sharp object, causing serious injuries and leaving him bleeding profusely.
Previous Incidents Alleged
The complainant informed police that the accused had allegedly been involved in similar incidents in the past and had frequently assaulted family members while under the influence of intoxicants.

Based on the complaint, City Kotwali Police registered Crime No. 285/26 against the accused under Sections 296, 351(2), and 118(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Swift Police Action Leads to Arrest
Acting under the directions of Superintendent of Police Ankita Sharma, guidance of Additional Superintendent of Police Kirtan Rathore, and City Superintendent of Police Alexander Kiro, a police team led by Station House Officer Inspector Upendra Kumar Shah launched an operation to apprehend the accused.
The police detained Durgesh Patel, a resident of Atal Awas, Baigapara, Lakholi. During interrogation, the accused reportedly confessed to the offence.
Police also recovered and seized the vegetable-cutting knife allegedly used in the attack.
Accused Remanded to Jail
The accused was formally arrested on June 2 and produced before the competent court, which remanded him to judicial custody.
Police records indicate that Durgesh Patel had previously been booked in 2018 under Section 324 of the Indian Penal Code in another criminal case.
Police Team Commended
The successful operation was carried out by Station House Officer Upendra Shah, Sub-Inspector Radheshyam Jurri, Constable Shankar Singh Markam, and other members of the police station staff, whose efforts were appreciated by senior officials.
