Location: Rajnandgaon, India

Under the second phase of the Gau Samman Ahwan Abhiyan, memorandums and signature-backed petitions were submitted on behalf of the President of India, the Prime Minister, the respective State Governors and Chief Ministers through District Magistrates across the country, including Rajnandgaon, with the objective of ensuring the service, protection and respect of Gomata.

According to the organisers, the campaign has been conducted over the past six months under the leadership of saints, cow protection volunteers and devotees from across the country. Through the campaign, more than 30 key demands have been placed before the government, including the enactment of a central law prohibiting cow slaughter, granting Gomata the status of “Rashtra Mata” (National Mother), removal of encroachments from grazing land, establishment of a Central Ministry for Cow Welfare, formulation of a National Fodder Policy, and inclusion of cow-centric policies relating to agriculture, healthcare, environment, education and human welfare.

To support these demands, a nationwide public awareness and signature campaign was conducted.

The organisers stated that during the first phase of the campaign, held on April 27, 2026, petitions supported by more than five crore signatures were submitted through nearly 5,000 tehsils across the country to the President, the Prime Minister, State Governors and Chief Ministers.

As the campaign’s demands had not received the expected response, the second phase was launched, under which reminder petitions supported by more than 15 crore signatures were submitted from districts across India.

In Rajnandgaon, meetings were organised with various social organisations, and awareness campaigns on cow protection were conducted across villages. School students from several educational institutions also participated in the campaign. Through these efforts, more than three lakh signatures were collected and submitted to the government through the District Magistrate in support of the service, protection and respect of cattle.

The programme began at the designated auspicious time with the worship of Gomata, the blowing of conch shells and the collective chanting of the “Shri Ram Jai Ram Jai Jai Ram” victory mantra. This was followed by a peaceful and disciplined procession in which devotees carried flags, banners, placards displaying campaign messages and participated in devotional singing while proceeding to the District Magistrate’s office.

One of the major attractions of the procession was a cow accompanied by its calf, symbolically appealing for the protection of its rights. Bundles containing copies of the collected signatures were carried on the heads of women devotees as part of the procession. A large number of saints, cow devotees, women participants, social workers, office-bearers of the campaign, district executive members, representatives of various social and religious organisations and prominent citizens participated in the programme before submitting the memorandum and signature-backed petitions to the District Magistrate.

On the occasion, campaign representatives stated that Gomata is not only a matter of religious faith but also an important pillar of Indian culture, agriculture, environmental conservation, the rural economy and public welfare. They urged the government to take an early and positive decision on all demands relating to the service, protection and respect of cattle.

They further stated that the campaign is being conducted in a peaceful, democratic and constitutional manner and will continue in phases until decisions are taken in accordance with public sentiments.
