With the arrival of Ganeshotsav, the entire look of Sadar Bazaar changes. The decades-old tradition of Ganesh installation is now being presented in a new form with modern technology, grand pandals and attractive electrical decorations. This year, Vinayak Samiti has added another chapter to the festive appeal of Sadar Bazaar with its विशाल and आकर्षक Ganesh pandal.
A Tradition Dating Back Decades
The tradition of Ganeshotsav in Sadar Bazaar is a long-standing one. The Rajnandgaon Rajasthani-Marwari Ganesh idol, popularly known as Premu Maharaj’s Ganesh and installed along with Riddhi-Siddhi, has been established here since around 1960. It holds a prominent place among the city’s old Ganeshotsav traditions.
At Jain Dadabadi, the Ganesh idol of Yuva Mandal has also been known for its attractive decoration and electrical lighting for many years. Similarly, Mitra Mandal’s Ganesh idol continues to be installed near Basantpur Police Station Chowk, with the continued support of Inderchand Ji Chopra and his family.
Known for its grandeur and organised nightly prasad distribution, the Mitra Mandal celebration has emerged as an attraction for devotees in recent years.
While the decoration and presentation of these celebrations have changed with time, the tradition of Ganesh installation continues.
Sadar Bazaar Once Offered a Distinctive Festival View
There was a time when standing at Jain Temple Chowk and looking around offered a distinctive view of the Ganeshotsav celebrations in Sadar Bazaar.
On one side stood the Ganesh idol of Sadar Ganesh Bal Mandal, on another the Yuva Mandal Ganesh, while the Ganesh idol of Mitra Mandal could be seen ahead. The surrounding area was filled with lights and religious enthusiasm.
The Mahalakshmi Temple behind Jain Temple, Jain Dadabadi and the attractive electrical decorations around the area further enhanced the beauty of the festival.
Modern Technology Transforms the Festive Landscape
Over time, the presentation of Ganeshotsav has also evolved. With technological development, idols have become larger, pandals have expanded in size and new experiments have been introduced in electrical decoration.
A route that once had relatively empty stretches during Ganeshotsav is now illuminated with lights and filled with religious enthusiasm.
This year, a stretch of around 250 metres from Bharat Mata Chowk to Basantpur Police Station Chowk is witnessing a special festive atmosphere. Attractive pandals, Ganesh idols and elaborate electrical decorations at different points are drawing devotees.
Vinayak Samiti’s Grand Pandal Becomes a Major Attraction
Vinayak Samiti has prepared a large Ganesh pandal in Sadar Bazaar this year. Located directly opposite Sonraj Tilokchand, the pandal stands out for its height, decoration, throne and combination of colours.
The golden-toned decoration and lighting have added to its visual appeal. A special structure extending towards the sky in the upper portion of the pandal makes the presentation even more striking.
The way Lord Ganesha is seated on a grand throne, combined with the upper decoration that creates an impression of a celestial setting, gives the pandal an artistic and devotional character that has become a special attraction for visitors.
The Vinayak Samiti installation reflects a blend of Sadar Bazaar’s traditional Ganeshotsav heritage and modern decorative presentation.
Grand Pandals Create a Devotional Atmosphere
Around six major Ganesh pandals in the Sadar Bazaar area have emerged as attractions for devotees this year. Different committees are organising worship and religious programmes at their respective locations.
Prasad distribution and bhandaras are also being organised at several places, with devotees being served puri-sabzi and other prasad. Religious programmes, including Hanuman Chalisa, are adding to the devotional atmosphere across the area.
As evening sets in, the movement of devotees and visitors through Sadar Bazaar increases. The route from Bharat Mata Chowk to Basantpur Police Station Chowk, illuminated with colourful lights, reflects the grandeur of the Ganeshotsav celebrations.
What was once concentrated around a few selected locations has now spread across the route through illuminated stretches, large pandals and religious programmes, making Sadar Bazaar a prominent attraction of Rajnandgaon’s Ganeshotsav tradition.
The faith remains rooted in an old tradition, while its presentation takes on a new form each year.
