Agriculture Department Promotes Modern Fertilizer Technology for Higher Productivity and Sustainable Farming

Agriculture Department Promoting Nano Fertilizers
The Agriculture Department is encouraging farmers to use Nano Urea and Nano DAP in paddy as well as various other crops. Nano fertilizers are based on modern agricultural technology and help improve nutrient-use efficiency, reduce production costs and support environmental protection.
According to the department, the first spray of Nano DAP in paddy crops can be applied 25 to 30 days after transplantation, while a second spray may be carried out 10 to 15 days later, depending on crop requirements.
Similarly, the first spray of Nano Urea is recommended 30 to 35 days after transplantation, followed by a second spray 15 to 20 days before panicle emergence.
Recommended Application Method
Farmers are advised to dissolve 250 millilitres of Nano DAP or Nano Urea in approximately 125 litres of water per acre and spray it uniformly on crop foliage.
A 500 ml bottle of Nano Urea provides an effect equivalent to approximately 45 kilograms of conventional urea. Likewise, Nano DAP enhances the availability of nitrogen and phosphorus in crops, playing a significant role in root development, plant growth and tiller formation.
Cost Advantage Over Conventional Fertilizers
The department highlighted the economic benefits of nano fertilizers compared to conventional alternatives.
A 45-kilogram bag of traditional urea costs approximately Rs 266, while a 50-kilogram bag of DAP is priced at around Rs 1,350. In contrast, a 500 ml bottle of Nano Urea is available for approximately Rs 225 and a 500 ml bottle of Nano DAP for around Rs 600.
Higher Nutrient Utilization Efficiency
Only 30 to 50 percent of nutrients from conventional fertilizers are utilized by crops, while the remaining portion is lost through runoff, evaporation or fixation in the soil.
In comparison, nano fertilizers have a nutrient-use efficiency of more than 80 percent, allowing plants to absorb nutrients more directly and effectively. This not only reduces fertilizer wastage but also improves crop yield and quality.
Environmental and Agricultural Benefits
The use of nano fertilizers helps reduce transportation and storage costs while minimizing soil and water pollution. It also contributes to maintaining soil fertility over the long term.
Agricultural scientists have stated that the use of Nano Urea and Nano DAP under balanced fertilizer management practices is proving increasingly beneficial for farmers.

Awareness and Training Programmes Underway
The Agriculture Department is conducting awareness campaigns, training programmes and field demonstrations at block and village levels to promote the adoption of nano fertilizers.
Farmers have been urged to contact their nearest agriculture office, agriculture extension officer or farmer welfare centre to obtain detailed information on nano fertilizer usage and adopt modern agricultural technologies to make farming more profitable.
