In a significant move aimed at strengthening rural livelihoods and promoting inclusive development, the Chhattisgarh government under the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai is set to disburse financial assistance worth nearly ₹500 crore to landless agricultural labourers across the state.

The initiative is being implemented under the Deendayal Upadhyay Bhumihin Krishi Majdoor Kalyan Yojana, which seeks to provide annual financial support to economically vulnerable rural households dependent on daily wage labour.

As per official data, a total of 4,95,965 beneficiaries will receive ₹10,000 each directly into their bank accounts this year. The state government has allocated ₹495.96 crore for the scheme in 2026, reaffirming its commitment to uplifting the economically weaker sections.

Notably, the beneficiary list also includes 22,028 families belonging to the Baiga and Guniya communities, who are considered custodians of the state’s traditional knowledge systems and cultural heritage. Their inclusion highlights the government’s focus on preserving indigenous communities while ensuring their economic integration.

The official disbursement ceremony is scheduled to take place on March 25 in Balodabazar, where the Chief Minister will transfer the funds directly to beneficiaries, marking a major milestone in the state’s welfare outreach.

Officials described the scheme as more than just a financial assistance programme, emphasizing its role in empowering the “last mile” population and ensuring dignity of life. The initiative aligns with the broader vision of “Antyodaya” — uplifting the poorest and most marginalized sections of society.

The government has steadily expanded the scheme’s reach and benefits. In 2025, financial assistance amounting to ₹562.11 crore was distributed among 5,62,112 beneficiaries, each receiving ₹10,000. The year-on-year increase in both coverage and allocation reflects sustained policy focus on rural economic stability.

Originally, beneficiaries received ₹7,000 annually under the scheme. However, the amount has since been enhanced to ₹10,000, significantly improving the financial cushion available to landless labourers. The funds are intended to support essential needs such as education, healthcare, and daily household expenses without forcing families into debt.

Experts believe that such direct benefit transfer schemes not only boost rural consumption but also contribute to long-term socio-economic development by reducing vulnerability among labour-dependent families.

With the upcoming disbursement, the Chhattisgarh government aims to reinforce its governance model centered on equity, transparency, and grassroots empowerment, ensuring that development benefits reach even the most remote and underserved communities.
