Health Department initiates probe following alleged medical negligence; samples sent to AIIMS Raipur for testing

The gynecology operation theatre of Shukla Multi-Speciality Hospital, Rajnandgaon, has been sealed by health authorities pending investigation into the death of a patient during treatment. According to information received from the Health Department, Mrs. Daupadi Sahu, a resident of Rivagahan village in Balod district, was admitted to the hospital on September 24, 2025, for a hysterectomy (uterus removal surgery).
She was readmitted on October 6, 2025, at around 3:50 PM for removal of stitches, but during the course of treatment, she passed away on October 9, 2025, at approximately 11:30 AM. Following her death, the patient’s family accused the hospital of medical negligence and staged a protest on the hospital premises.

Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) Dr. Netram Navratan and his team immediately visited the hospital, interacted with the bereaved family, and initiated an on-site inspection. A five-member expert committee was constituted on the same day to conduct a detailed investigation and submit a report with recommendations within seven days.
On October 10, 2025, the district-level inquiry team reached the hospital and conducted an inspection of the gynecology operation theatre. Samples were collected for culture testing, which have been sent to AIIMS Raipur for examination. Following the collection, the operation theatre was sealed until further notice.
The inquiry team also recorded the statements of three doctors and two OT staff members involved in the patient’s surgery and collected copies of all medical documents related to the treatment for further analysis.
The investigation into the complaint against Shukla Multi-Speciality Hospital is ongoing. Authorities have stated that disciplinary action will be taken against those found responsible based on the findings of the inquiry committee.
