Mayor Madhusudan Yadav and Collector Jitendra Yadav participated in a workshop on the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana organised at the Town Hall of the Rajnandgaon Municipal Corporation.
The workshop brought together all municipal councillors to discuss the implementation of the rooftop solar scheme and ways to accelerate its adoption across urban areas.
All Councillors to Support Solar Scheme: Mayor
Mayor Madhusudan Yadav said the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana is an important initiative towards building a self-reliant and developed India.
He said the implementation of the scheme may be challenging, but collective efforts can ensure its success. He assured that all councillors would extend their cooperation and not only install solar panels at their own homes to reduce electricity bills but also encourage residents to adopt the scheme.

“Everyone must make every possible contribution to achieving the target,” the Mayor said.
Rajnandgaon Must Set a Benchmark in Solar Energy: Collector
Collector Jitendra Yadav said the scheme is important for both the present and the future of the energy sector. By reducing household electricity expenses, the scheme will help families save money, while the savings can also be utilised for other needs.
He said the government is encouraging citizens to adopt rooftop solar systems by providing financial assistance. A 3-kilowatt solar plant can receive financial assistance of up to ₹1.08 lakh. After the subsidy, the net loan amount would be around ₹81,000, which can be repaid through an estimated monthly instalment of approximately ₹890 at an annual interest rate of around 6%.
The Collector said residents can also install 1-kW and 2-kW solar systems according to their requirements. He urged citizens to install quality solar panels and move towards relief from electricity bills.
Banks, Power Department and Municipal Corporation to Work Together
The Collector said the bank, electricity department and Municipal Corporation teams would work in coordination to ensure effective implementation of the scheme.
He added that households could also benefit from surplus electricity generation after connecting their systems to the grid.
Jitendra Yadav called upon citizens to help Rajnandgaon create a benchmark in the field of energy and move towards greater self-reliance.
He urged residents to make the PM Surya Ghar scheme a “gift” for their families and encouraged councillors to motivate people from all sections of society to benefit from the scheme.

More Than 4,000 Consumers Already Benefitting
Municipal Commissioner G.R. Markam provided information about the scheme and encouraged residents to take maximum advantage of it.
An Executive Engineer of the Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company Limited explained that consumers can apply through the official portal, select an empanelled vendor and become energy producers.
The Lead Bank Manager, Munish Sharma, provided information about loans and interest rates available under the scheme. Participants’ queries regarding the scheme were also addressed during the workshop.
An information stall was also set up to guide consumers about the rooftop solar programme.
According to officials, more than 4,000 consumers in Rajnandgaon district are already benefiting from the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. A large number of councillors and officials attended the workshop.
