The convention, inaugurated in Puri, was attended by Union Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Odisha’s Deputy Chief Minister Parvati Parida, senior officials of the Ministry of Tourism, along with prominent representatives of the travel and hospitality industry from across India and abroad.

In his address, Sharma underlined the state’s unique blend of natural beauty, ancient heritage, and modern infrastructure, describing Chhattisgarh as a rising force in both leisure and business travel. “Chhattisgarh is now fully prepared to host large-scale MICE tourism—meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions. The state is ready to welcome national as well as international events of significant scale,” he said.

Sharma also extended an invitation to the IATO leadership to consider Chhattisgarh as the venue for a forthcoming annual convention, while urging tour operators to experience the state firsthand. “We are creating an environment conducive for tourism investments and industry collaborations, where culture and commerce can thrive together,” he added.

A young and dynamic leader, Neelu Sharma has quickly emerged as a prominent face in Chhattisgarh’s developmental initiatives. Before assuming charge as Chairman of the Tourism Board, Sharma held the position of Minister of State rank while heading the Chhattisgarh Warehousing Corporation, where his tenure was marked by efficiency and innovative practices.

Known for his close association with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for tourism and infrastructure-led growth, Sharma is seen as a promising political figure with the capacity to energize the state’s tourism potential and bring it to the national stage.
