As part of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (Drug-Free India Campaign), implemented under the guidance of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, and the Department of Social Welfare, Government of Chhattisgarh, a series of awareness programmes were organised across the district during Nasha Mukt Bharat Week and the Anti-Illegal Drug Trafficking Week.
Special Awareness Programme Held at District Jail
The campaign concluded with a special awareness programme at Raigarh District Jail, where inmates were encouraged to adopt a healthy and positive lifestyle by staying away from substance abuse.
During the event, all inmates took a pledge to lead a drug-free life. They were sensitised about the harmful effects of narcotic substances, their adverse impact on individuals, families and society, and the importance of embracing a healthy lifestyle.

The programme also featured musical and cultural performances, which effectively conveyed the message of de-addiction and received appreciation from the participants.
Collective Efforts Essential for a Drug-Free Society
Addressing the programme, the Deputy Director, Social Welfare, Raigarh, said that substance abuse is one of the biggest obstacles to an individual’s potential, family well-being and societal progress. He stressed that collective efforts are essential to protect young people from addiction and create widespread awareness in society.
He explained that the objective of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan is to educate people about the harmful consequences of substance abuse, connect affected individuals with treatment and rehabilitation services, and build a drug-free India through active public participation.
The department appealed to citizens to stay away from intoxicating substances themselves and motivate their family members and friends to embrace a drug-free lifestyle.
The programme was attended by District Jail Superintendent G.S. Soni, Social Welfare Department officials and staff, De-addiction Centre Manager Sumant Acharya, Ranjana Yadav, Kuber Charan Chauhan, Music Instructor at the Siyan Gudi Day Care Centre, officials and staff of the jail administration, and a large number of inmates.
