In a major push to recover pending electricity dues, the Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company Limited (CSPDCL) has launched an extensive revenue recovery drive across Rajnandgaon city. As part of this campaign, the power utility successfully recovered ₹48.39 lakh from 279 defaulting consumers, while disconnecting 373 electricity connections of those who failed to clear their outstanding bills despite repeated notices and counselling.

According to officials, dedicated teams comprising officers and field staff were deployed for mass disconnection and recovery operations. These teams visited defaulter households and establishments, urging them to clear their dues on the spot. Consumers who responded positively deposited the pending amount, while strict action was taken against those who continued to ignore payment reminders.

The electricity department stated that the campaign aims not only to recover overdue revenue but also to instil financial discipline among consumers regarding timely payment of electricity bills. Field officers have been continuously reminding consumers that delayed payments can lead to disconnection and loss of government-provided benefits.

Executive Engineer of Rajnandgaon Circle, Mr. Kaushalendra Pandey, informed that the recovery and disconnection drive is being conducted against domestic, non-domestic, and industrial category consumers alike. “Consumers across all categories who have accumulated significant arrears are being identified, and action is being taken as per rules,” he said.

Under the ongoing campaign, electricity connections of 373 consumers in Rajnandgaon city were disconnected due to non-payment of dues amounting to ₹57.72 lakh. Officials clarified that these disconnections were carried out only after repeated reminders and adequate opportunity was given to consumers to clear their pending bills.

Alongside enforcement action, CSPDCL is also focusing on awareness and facilitation. Consumers are being encouraged to make timely payments through the ‘Mor Bijli’ mobile application to avoid inconvenience caused by line disconnection. Officials are also informing consumers about the Chhattisgarh government’s half electricity bill scheme, under which eligible households receive benefits up to 400 units.

Additionally, during door-to-door visits, recovery officials are spreading awareness about the Central Government’s PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, which offers free electricity up to 300 units along with subsidies for installing rooftop solar systems. Consumers are being advised that regular payment of electricity bills is essential to remain eligible for such welfare schemes.

The power utility has clearly stated that consumers who fail to pay their electricity dues regularly may become automatically ineligible for the state government’s half electricity bill scheme. “Non-payment not only leads to disconnection but also deprives consumers of valuable subsidy benefits,” officials cautioned.

The electricity department has also taken a firm stance with government offices. All heads of government departments in Rajnandgaon district have been issued formal letters requesting immediate clearance of pending electricity bills to avoid coercive action.

CSPDCL has appealed to all consumers, including households, commercial establishments, industries, and government offices, to ensure regular and timely payment of electricity bills. The department emphasized that cooperation from consumers will help avoid disconnection-related inconvenience and ensure uninterrupted power supply across the city.

The recovery drive is expected to continue in the coming days, with officials reiterating that strict action will be taken against chronic defaulters, while compliant consumers will continue to receive the benefits of various state and central government electricity schemes.
