Blocked Drain Near District Hospital Cleared with JCB; Sanitation Commando Gang Undertakes Cleaning Around Hospital Premises

Municipal Commissioner G.R. Markam conducted a surprise inspection of Indira Nagar on Wednesday morning to review sanitation arrangements amid continuous rainfall and directed officials to ensure thorough cleaning across the entire settlement.
During the inspection, the Commissioner also inspected the blocked drain near the District Hospital. The drain was cleared using a JCB after it was found obstructed by plastic sheets, polythene and waste. The drains surrounding the hospital premises were cleaned comprehensively by the Sanitation Commando Gang.
Keeping in view the waterlogging situation in low-lying settlements following continuous rainfall over the past two to three days, Commissioner G.R. Markam conducted the inspection along with the Municipal Corporation’s technical and health department teams.
During the inspection, he directed officials to pay special attention to sanitation in Indira Nagar. He instructed them to ensure proper arrangements for draining water from waterlogged areas and to dig temporary drains wherever necessary to remove water accumulated in pits.

The Commissioner inspected the District Hospital premises and, after finding the drain in front of the hospital blocked by plastic sheets, polythene and garbage, directed that it be cleared immediately in his presence using a JCB. The drains around the hospital premises were also cleaned by the Sanitation Commando Gang and the accumulated waste was removed.
Commissioner Markam also inspected the public toilet located within the hospital premises and directed the operator to ensure special attention to cleanliness and keep water, electricity and other essential facilities in proper working condition.
He said that patients and their attendants visiting the hospital should not face any inconvenience and that all essential facilities related to the public toilet must be maintained regularly.
As part of the inspection, Commissioner Markam also visited the Padma Shri Govindram Nirmalkar Auditorium and directed officials to complete the remaining repair work at the earliest. He further instructed that regular cleaning of the premises be ensured and thorny bushes be removed.
The Commissioner said that various programmes are organised at the auditorium and VIPs also visit the venue during government programmes. Keeping this in view, he directed officials to ensure that all necessary arrangements remain in proper condition.
Ward Councillor Satish Sahu, Executive Engineer Deepak Khande, In-charge Health Officer Rajesh Mishra and other health department personnel were present during the inspection.
