Listed goon sent to judicial custody after arrest in Rajnandgaon

City Kotwali Police have arrested a listed habitual offender in connection with an assault and criminal intimidation case and produced him before the court, which sent him to judicial custody.
According to the police, the complainant lodged a report at City Kotwali Police Station on July 18, 2026, stating that he was standing near Suresh Lodge at the Old Bus Stand in Rajnandgaon at around 5:30 pm.
During this time, Vimal alias Bahadur (40), son of Chinki Bahadur and a resident of Atal Awas No. 13, Baigapara, Lakholi, Rajnandgaon, allegedly approached him and demanded money to purchase alcohol.
When the complainant refused to give him money, the accused allegedly abused him, threatened to kill him and assaulted him with fists, causing injuries.
Based on the complaint, City Kotwali Police registered Crime No. 380/2026 under Sections 296, 115(2), 351(2) and 119(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and initiated an investigation.

The operation was conducted under the direction of Superintendent of Police Ankita Sharma (IPS) and guidance of Additional Superintendent of Police Keertan Rathore (RPS) and City Superintendent of Police Alexander Kiron (RPS). The police team worked under the leadership of City Kotwali Police Station in-charge Inspector Upendra Kumar Shah.
After sustained efforts, the accused was taken into custody on July 21, 2026. During questioning, he reportedly confessed to the offence. After sufficient evidence was collected, he was formally arrested and produced before the court, which sent him to judicial custody.
Police said the arrested accused is a listed habitual offender of Kotwali Police Station and has 14 previous criminal cases registered against him, including cases under the Excise Act, Arms Act, assault, criminal intimidation and other serious offences.
In addition, several preventive actions have previously been taken against him under various legal provisions.
The police team involved in the action included Inspector Upendra Shah, Sub-Inspector Ratan Singh Netam, Constables Prakash Kurre, Ashwani and Puran, along with other staff of City Kotwali Police Station.
