The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organised a large public awareness march in Rajnandgaon on Sunday under its ‘Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy’ campaign. A large number of party office-bearers, public representatives and workers from across the district participated in the march, which highlighted the party’s message of upholding democratic values and opposing what it described as political disorder.

The march began at the State High School premises, where party workers from different parts of the district assembled. It proceeded through Manav Mandir Chowk, Cinema Line and Bharat Mata Chowk before reaching Ganj Chowk, where it culminated in a public meeting.

Participants carried placards and raised slogans in support of democracy and against violence and disorder. Messages such as “No to Violence and Vandalism” and “Respect Democracy, Reject Anarchy” were displayed during the march. The procession witnessed enthusiasm among party workers and participation by a large number of citizens.

BJP Leaders Accuse Congress of Creating Confusion

Addressing the gathering at Ganj Chowk, BJP District President Komal Singh Rajput, Mayor Madhusudan Yadav and campaign district convenor Khubchand Parakh criticised the Congress and other opposition parties.

They alleged that the opposition was attempting to create an atmosphere of confusion and violence in the country in the name of farmers’ protests and campaigns to protect democracy and the Constitution. According to the BJP leaders, the opposition was using protests to create instability rather than raise issues of public interest.

They also referred to developments in countries such as Nepal, France and Bangladesh, alleging that the opposition was attempting to create a similar atmosphere through street and crowd-based politics.

The leaders said that while the right to protest is an essential democratic right, violence, vandalism and attempts to discredit constitutional institutions in the name of protest cannot be accepted. They asserted that BJP workers would oppose such efforts and present their version of the issues before the public.

Santosh Pandey Criticises Congress Over Constitutional Institutions

Addressing the public meeting, MP Santosh Pandey launched a sharp attack on the Congress. He said that after controversies surrounding Rafale and Hindenburg and repeated electoral defeats, the Congress was now pursuing what he described as a politics of discrediting constitutional institutions.

Pandey said India’s electoral system is among the world’s largest and strongest democratic systems. He cited the country’s population of approximately 140 crore, around 96 crore voters and 12 lakh polling stations as indicators of the scale and strength of the democratic framework.

He said the Election Commission conducts elections in a fair and uninterrupted manner, and its work is appreciated internationally.

Referring to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, Pandey criticised the Congress and said the party should apologise to the country. Questioning Congress leaders who carry copies of the Constitution, he asked who had violated its principles.

He also said that after raising questions about Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), the opposition was now attempting to spread what he described as misinformation about the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. He called on BJP workers to reach out to the public in defence of democratic values and respect for the people’s mandate.

Shivratan Sharma Says Public Will Not Be Misled by SIR Narrative

Former Bhাটapara MLA Shivratan Sharma, who was the main speaker at the meeting, alleged that the Congress was spreading confusion over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) as though it were a new exercise.

He claimed that SIR had been conducted nine times in the country, including seven occasions during Congress-led governments, and said the BJP had not raised objections to the process on those occasions.

Sharma alleged that the Congress was using opposition to SIR as a means of creating political unrest. He referred to statements attributed to Prashant Bhushan about regime change and to Neha Bora about political change similar to developments in Bangladesh and Nepal, describing them as examples of the opposition’s approach.

He also recalled historical political events, including the selection of Jawaharlal Nehru as Prime Minister after Independence and the 1975 Allahabad High Court judgment concerning Indira Gandhi’s election from Rae Bareli. He cited the Emergency imposed in 1975 as an example of what he described as an assault on democracy.

Sharma Presents BJP’s Explanation of Electoral Roll Revision

Sharma also challenged the Congress’s allegation that 13 crore names had been removed from electoral rolls without justification. He presented a breakdown, claiming that the figure included approximately 2.8 crore deceased voters, six crore people who had permanently shifted to other places, one crore voters whose names appeared at two locations and three crore people who could not be traced at their registered addresses.

He alleged that the Congress was misleading the public over these entries and said the revision was necessary to maintain accurate electoral rolls. These figures and explanations were presented by Sharma during his address.

He further urged party workers and citizens to remain alert in protecting democratic values, the dignity of constitutional institutions and the country’s unity and integrity. He said the public would respond to what he described as the Congress’s negative and disorderly politics in future elections.
