Youth Attacked with Stone and Broken Liquor Bottle After Objecting to Abuse in Rajnandgaon

Blows Struck on Head, Neck and Abdomen; Accused Arrested and Sent to Jail on Judicial Remand

A youth was seriously injured after allegedly being attacked with a stone and a broken liquor bottle for objecting to verbal abuse in the Somni police station area of Rajnandgaon. Police arrested the accused and produced him before the court, which sent him to jail on judicial remand.

Dispute Began Over Verbal Abuse

According to the police, the complainant reported at Somni Police Station that his acquaintance Devendra Kumar Lahre alias Gattu had called him to meet on September 30, 2026.

The complainant reached the Mini Stadium in Anjora village, where the accused allegedly began abusing him over an issue concerning a phone call that the accused claimed had not been answered.

When the complainant objected to the verbal abuse, the accused allegedly attacked him on the head with a stone he was carrying.

Broken Liquor Bottle Used in Attack

Police said the accused then allegedly picked up an empty liquor bottle lying nearby, broke it and attacked the complainant with the broken pieces.

The victim allegedly suffered injuries to the neck and abdomen in addition to the injury to his head.

Following the complaint, Somni Police registered a case under Sections 296 and 109(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and began the investigation.

Police Team Formed to Trace Accused

Considering the seriousness of the incident, senior police officers were informed. Under the direction of Superintendent of Police Ankita Sharma (IPS), guidance of Additional Superintendent of Police Keertan Rathore, supervision of City Superintendent of Police K.P. Markam, and leadership of Somni Police Station in-charge Inspector Aiman Sahu, a police team was formed to trace the accused.

The police team detained Devendra Kumar Lahre alias Devendra alias Gattu, son of Omprakash Lahre, aged 18, for questioning.

The accused is a resident of Fusera village, Birejhar Police Station, Dhamtari district, and was residing temporarily at Sitaram’s rented house in Kopedih under Somni Police Station, Rajnandgaon district.

According to police, during questioning, the accused admitted to committing the incident.

Accused Sent to Jail on Judicial Remand

The accused was formally arrested and produced before the court. Following the court’s order, he was sent to jail on judicial remand.
