Central Ground Water Board experts provide technical guidance for sustainable water management; district officials stress community participation

A workshop focusing on groundwater recharge and water conservation was held on Tuesday at the District Panchayat conference hall in Rajnandgaon under the chairmanship of Dr D. Gyan Sundar, Regional Director, Central Ground Water Board (CGWB), Chhattisgarh. District Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Suroochi Singh was also present on the occasion.
Scientists and subject experts from the Central Ground Water Board delivered detailed presentations on groundwater recharge techniques, rainwater harvesting, scientific and technical measures for water conservation, enhancement of groundwater levels, and sustainable water management practices.
Officials said the primary objective of the workshop was to provide technical guidance for effective implementation of groundwater conservation and recharge schemes through coordinated efforts among various departments.

Participants were encouraged to treat water conservation as a people-centric movement, stressing the importance of community involvement in protecting water resources.
CGWB officials also reviewed works carried out under Mission Jal Sanrakshan in Gram Panchayat Barga and Gram Panchayat Farhad. The innovative construction of injection wells in percolation tanks within the district was specially appreciated as a progressive initiative for groundwater recharge.
The workshop witnessed participation from Assistant Project Officers under MNREGA, along with technical officers and staff from the Water Resources Department, Public Health Engineering Department, Agriculture Department, Forest Department, Panchayat and Rural Development Department, as well as representatives of Panchayati Raj Institutions.
Officials expressed hope that the technical inputs shared during the workshop would strengthen district-level planning and execution of sustainable water conservation measures.
