The two-day divisional-level National Youth Parliament Competition began in an enthusiastic atmosphere at PM Shri Kendriya Vidyalaya Rajnandgaon on Thursday. The competition, being held on September 10 and 11, has brought together more than 400 students from eight Kendriya Vidyalayas across the state.

The primary objective of the competition is to develop democratic values, parliamentary traditions, leadership abilities, discipline, reasoned dialogue and confidence among students to express their views in public.

The chief guest at the programme, Santosh Agrawal, Representative of the MLA, Assembly Constituency No. 75, Rajnandgaon, encouraged the participating students and said that youth power is the country’s greatest strength. He said that today’s students would shoulder leadership responsibilities in different fields of the country tomorrow.

Agrawal said that the Youth Parliament is not merely a competition, but also provides students with an opportunity to understand the democratic system, the functioning of Parliament and the responsibilities of a responsible citizen.

He told the students that in a democracy, it is important to listen to the views of others, present one’s own views on the basis of reason and engage in effective dialogue. He wished the participants confidence and success in the competition and urged them to consider the event as an opportunity to learn.

Guests Welcomed, Students Briefed About Competition

Principal Manoj Kumar welcomed chief guest Santosh Agrawal, Ravindra Kumar, Assistant Commissioner, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, Raipur, Girish Babu Kutswar, Principal, Kendriya Vidyalaya Dhamtari, and other guests.

He said that such programmes strengthen the overall development, discipline and leadership abilities of students.

Principal Girish Babu Kutswar of Kendriya Vidyalaya Dhamtari briefed the students about the procedures and rules of the Youth Parliament, the dignity of the House, parliamentary functioning and the process of deliberation.

The participating students displayed considerable enthusiasm during the competition. Students from different schools are presenting their views in a parliamentary format on national and social issues.

Through the two-day event, students are gaining practical exposure to democratic traditions and the parliamentary system.
