“Asking for forgiveness and granting forgiveness are both great acts. They lighten the burden on the mind and bring a sense of peace.”
These words were expressed by Shreyanshprabh Sagar Ji, a disciple of Khartar Gachhadhipati Maniprabh Sagar Ji, during his regular discourse on the second day of the Samvatsari festival at the new hall located at Jain Bageecha in Rajnandgaon.
The discourse focused on the importance of forgiveness, compassion, self-awareness and learning from one’s mistakes.
Forgiveness Brings Peace to the Mind
Muni Shreyanshprabh Ji said that when someone is going through hardship, people should come forward to help and support them.
He emphasised that support does not necessarily have to be financial. A person can support someone in need in many different ways, including through care, encouragement and assistance.
He also urged people not to repeat their mistakes.
“Human beings make mistakes, but we must ensure that our mistakes are not repeated,” he said, while encouraging devotees to learn to both seek forgiveness for their mistakes and forgive others.
Forgiveness Must Come From the Heart
Muni Shreyanshprabh Ji stressed that forgiveness should always be sincere.
He said that when a person forgives someone, it should be done wholeheartedly and not merely as an outward gesture. Similarly, when seeking forgiveness, one should do so with genuine feelings rather than merely going through the motions.
According to him, true forgiveness has the power to release emotional burdens and create a sense of inner freedom.
Significance of Samvatsari Festival
Drawing a parallel with Independence Day, Muni Shreyanshprabh Ji explained that certain days serve as reminders that awaken awareness within society.

He said that people are already free, but Independence Day reminds the nation of the sacrifices made for freedom.
In the same way, he explained, Samvatsari festival serves as a reminder to awaken the spirit of forgiveness within people.
He said forgiveness can be sought at any time and anywhere, but Samvatsari provides a special occasion when people openly approach one another, without hesitation, to seek and grant forgiveness.
No One Becomes Superior or Inferior by Seeking Forgiveness
Muni Shreyanshprabh Ji said that asking for forgiveness or granting forgiveness does not make anyone superior or inferior.
Both, he emphasised, are noble acts.
He further encouraged devotees to forgive others even when the other person has not personally sought forgiveness.
“If the other person has not asked you for forgiveness, forgive them anyway,” he said, explaining that doing so can make a person feel remarkably lighter.
The discourse highlighted forgiveness not merely as a religious practice but as a means of reducing mental burdens, improving relationships and cultivating peace within oneself.
