Announces construction of ₹6.37 crore synthetic athletic track and preparations for All India Hockey Tournament in January

Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly Speaker Dr. Raman Singh chaired a comprehensive review meeting on sports development and infrastructure enhancement in Rajnandgaon on Wednesday. Addressing officials and representatives from various sports associations, Dr. Singh emphasized that “strengthening sports infrastructure and promoting active sporting culture in the district are among the government’s top priorities.”
He announced that the Mahant Raja Sarveshwardas Memorial All India Hockey Tournament will be hosted in January 2026 at the International Hockey Stadium, Rajnandgaon, and directed officials to complete all necessary permissions and preparations in time. Depending on readiness, the event may alternatively be held at Digvijay Stadium, he added.
Dr. Singh stated that both the electrification and development proposals for Digvijay Stadium are under consideration at the Central and State levels, and assured that the administration would ensure quality execution of these projects.
Major infrastructure push announced
The Assembly Speaker revealed that a four-lane, 800-meter synthetic athletic track will be constructed at a cost of ₹6.37 crore, significantly boosting local sports infrastructure. He also interacted with representatives of various sports federations and welcomed their suggestions for the district’s sports development roadmap.
Mayor and Collector highlight pending projects
Mayor Madhusudan Yadav informed that the electrification proposal for Digvijay Stadium worth ₹6 crore and the Astroturf replacement project at the International Hockey Stadium costing ₹9.20 crore are awaiting administrative approval. He said the administration is identifying two alternate venues to ensure smooth hosting of major tournaments and that funding will be utilized from the Sports Department, Rajgami Sampada, and Voluntary Grants.
Collector Jitendra Yadav detailed ongoing training programs under Khelo India Mini Centers, where 35 boys and 35 girls receive hockey training daily at the International Stadium. He noted that the Hockey National Level Tournament is proposed for January 5–15, 2026.
Additionally, 38 volleyball players and 26 archery trainees practice daily at district grounds, while Digvijay Stadium’s badminton courts are being actively utilized for training.

Collector Yadav also shared plans for:
- Multi-gym repair and D-Block hall construction at Digvijay Stadium
- Synthetic flooring for badminton courts
- Development of Badminton Academy, Box Cricket Arena, Skating Ring, and a new Indoor Stadium
He emphasized that Rajnandgaon has strong potential in volleyball and archery, and expert coaching will be arranged to nurture emerging talents.
The meeting was attended by key officials including SP Ankita Sharma, Additional Collector Premprakash Sharma, Mrinal Choubey, members of the Digvijay Stadium Committee, coaches, players, and representatives from various sports associations.
