Encouraged by the state’s farmer-friendly horticulture initiatives, Sinha cultivated the Maalya variety of tomatoes under a polyhouse structure, achieving exceptional yield and market value. He reported that his tomatoes are fetching ₹700–₹800 per crate, with strong demand from Korba, Kolkata, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, and local markets.

“Favorable climate, proper soil management, and mulching techniques under controlled temperature conditions have yielded excellent produce,” said Sinha, noting that each tomato plant was given stick support for optimal growth.

Government support drives agricultural transformation
Under the National Horticulture Mission, Suresh Sinha received a ₹17 lakh subsidy from the government for his ₹34 lakh polyhouse setup. Additionally, he received ₹2 lakh assistance for a vegetable storage pack house and 50% subsidy for a pesticide spraying machine.

Owning 15 acres of land, Sinha cultivates paddy on 8 acres and vegetables on 7 acres. This year, he produced 35 tonnes of bottle gourd (lauki) on 1.5 acres, earning nearly 50% net profit. In the same polyhouse, he practices intercropping with cauliflower, turnip, onion, and radish to maximize returns.

Sinha emphasized that vegetable cultivation offers 3–4 times higher income compared to paddy, while requiring less water and providing multiple crop cycles annually.
