71 of 84 Severely Malnourished Children Recover After Treatment at NRC Under Joint Health Initiative

Continuous efforts by the district administration to eliminate malnutrition are yielding encouraging results in Rajnandgaon, with the Nutrition Rehabilitation Centre (NRC) at the Government Hospital, Dongargarh, successfully treating a majority of admitted severely malnourished children.
Under the guidance of Collector Jitendra Yadav, the initiative is being implemented jointly by the Health Department and the Women and Child Development Department.
According to official information, 84 severely malnourished children have been admitted to the NRC so far, of whom 71 have fully recovered and returned home after completing treatment.
Comprehensive Medical Care and Nutritional Support
During their stay at the Nutrition Rehabilitation Centre, the children received treatment under the supervision of specialist doctors and trained healthcare personnel for the prescribed duration.
They were provided with balanced and nutritious meals, essential medicines, regular health check-ups, and continuous medical care.
Officials said the treatment resulted in significant improvements in both the children’s weight and overall health condition.
Parents Counselled on Nutrition and Child Care
Before discharge, parents and guardians were provided with guidance on child nutrition, hygiene, breastfeeding, and complementary feeding practices to help prevent the children from slipping back into malnutrition.
The counselling aimed to equip families with the knowledge needed to maintain the nutritional well-being of their children at home.
Continuous Monitoring After Discharge
The district administration has also established a system for regular follow-up monitoring of children after their discharge from the NRC.
Anganwadi workers and field staff of the Health Department have been entrusted with monitoring the children’s weight, health, and nutritional status on a continuous basis.
Health Department officials said the campaign against malnutrition in Dongargarh block will continue, with identified severely malnourished children being admitted to the Nutrition Rehabilitation Centre in a timely manner to receive treatment and nutrition-related services.
The objective, officials said, is to ensure that every child grows up healthy, well-nourished, and equipped for a better future.
