Collector Jitendra Yadav on Wednesday chaired a joint review meeting of the Women and Child Development Department, Health Department and the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) at the District Panchayat conference hall. The meeting focused on improving maternal and child health indicators, addressing malnutrition, assessing the progress of the Pott Laika Pahal campaign, and strengthening registration and tracking of pregnant women.

The Collector reviewed ANC registration, institutional deliveries, vaccination, and implementation of departmental schemes. He stressed that malnutrition severely affects both the physical and mental development of children, and eliminating it must remain a top priority.

Malnutrition-Free Panchayats to Get Priority Funding

Collector Yadav directed officials to develop a comprehensive action plan to make every gram panchayat malnutrition-free. He urged coordinated community involvement, especially through elected representatives, to raise awareness about nutrition. He also announced that malnutrition-free gram panchayats will receive priority approval for development budgets from local funds.

He instructed officials to ensure that severely malnourished children are admitted promptly to the Nutrition Rehabilitation Centre (NRC) and monitored regularly. Directions were issued to maintain cleanliness at NRCs and ensure that children receive high-quality, nutritious food to help them recover quickly.

Recognising exemplary performance, the Collector honoured several Anganwadi workers and Mitanins with shawls, coconuts and certificates. He praised their persistent efforts in maternal-child health, nutrition outreach and community engagement.

Mandate for 100% ANC Registration

Collector Yadav reiterated that under the Maternal and Child Health Programme, 100% ANC registration is mandatory. High-risk pregnancies must be identified early and followed up regularly, especially during the last 15 days before delivery, to ensure complete vaccination and medical support.

Stating that no maternal or infant deaths should occur, he emphasised that high-risk mothers must remain the primary focus of field-level workers.

Directions Under National Child Health Programme

The Collector also reviewed the progress of the Chirayu scheme under the National Child Health Programme. He instructed officials to ensure health screening of all school children, with strict monitoring for compliance.

CEO Zila Panchayat Suruchi Singh stressed that no pregnant woman or malnourished child should be left out of departmental services or schemes. Mandatory registration of pregnant women at Anganwadi and health centres, along with consistent intake of iron and multivitamin supplements, was highlighted as essential.

The meeting was attended by Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr. N.R. Navratan, WCD Programme Officer Gurpreet Kaur, district programme managers, block medical officers, BPMs, Mitanin nodal officers, BCs, SPSs, CDPOs, supervisors and NRLM officials.
