In a bid to strengthen road safety measures and curb illegal transportation, Collector Jitendra Yadav chaired a meeting of the District Road Safety Committee at the Collectorate on Tuesday. The meeting focused on improving traffic management, reducing accidents, and enforcing stricter monitoring mechanisms across the district.

The Collector directed officials to identify smaller roads that are frequently used for unauthorized movement of heavy vehicles. To prevent such activities, he instructed the installation of check posts at strategic locations, along with CCTV cameras and barriers to ensure effective monitoring and control. These measures are expected to help maintain road quality and ensure long-term safety for rural commuters.

Focus on Accident-Prone Areas
Reviewing the status of improvement works at identified accident-prone locations, the Collector emphasized the need for targeted interventions to reduce fatalities. He instructed officials to install speed breakers, proper signage, and high-mast lighting in vulnerable zones to enhance visibility and control vehicle speed.

Strict Enforcement of Traffic Rules
Highlighting the importance of public awareness, the Collector stressed that citizens must strictly adhere to traffic regulations. He directed officials to intensify awareness campaigns, especially regarding helmet usage, and ordered strict action against violators. Authorities have also been instructed to impose fines on those breaching traffic rules and to carry out regular checks on vehicles parked in no-parking zones along highways and other major roads.

Cashless Treatment Under PM Relief Scheme
The Collector also highlighted the benefits of the Central Government’s PM Relief Scheme for road accident victims. Under the initiative, injured persons will be provided immediate cashless treatment during the critical “golden hour” following an accident. The scheme covers up to ₹1.5 lakh per person for a maximum of seven days and is applicable at all registered government and private hospitals.

District Transport Officer Anand Sharma presented a detailed overview of ongoing road safety initiatives during the meeting. Additional Collector C.L. Markandeya, Additional Collector Prem Prakash Sharma, Municipal Commissioner Atul Vishwakarma, Executive Engineer Chaurasia, and other officials were also present.

Strengthening Road Safety Framework
The meeting underscored the administration’s commitment to reducing road accidents and ensuring safer transportation systems. With a combination of infrastructure upgrades, strict enforcement, and public awareness, the district aims to significantly lower accident rates and improve overall road safety standards.
