A major controversy has surfaced in Chhattisgarh under the ambitious Bharatmala Pariyojana, as the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has filed a chargesheet in court in connection with an alleged multi-crore compensation scam linked to land acquisition.
According to investigating agencies, serious irregularities were detected in the disbursement of compensation to farmers whose land was acquired for road construction. The probe revealed that large sums were allegedly siphoned off through fraudulent means, including transfers to fake bank accounts and artificial inflation of land values, resulting in significant losses to the government exchequer.
The investigation was jointly conducted by the Economic Offences Wing and the Anti Corruption Bureau, involving detailed scrutiny of financial transactions and official records. Authorities uncovered multiple instances of forged documents, manipulated land registry data, and suspicious bank transactions that point to a well-organized network of officials, middlemen, and influential individuals.
