30 quarters of illicit liquor seized; accused sent to judicial custody after court presentation

As part of the district-wide anti-narcotics drive and ongoing action against illegal activities, Chichola Police carried out a successful operation against illegal liquor trading and arrested one accused involved in unlawful sale of country liquor.
The action was conducted under the direction of Superintendent of Police Rajnandgaon Ms. Ankita Sharma, with guidance from Additional Superintendent of Police Mr. Kirtan Rathore and Sub-Divisional Police Officer Mr. Kesarinandan Nayak. Police Outpost Chichola has been continuously taking action against individuals involved in illegal liquor sales.
Accused Arrested Following Tip-Off
Continuing the campaign, a police team led by Chichola Outpost In-Charge Inspector Yogesh Patel received information from an informer on May 6, 2026, that a person had purchased liquor from village Rangitola and was standing near village Lalbahadur Nagar on the road towards village Narayangarh with the intention of selling it illegally.
Acting on the information, the police team reached the spot where the suspect attempted to flee after noticing the police vehicle. However, he was apprehended after a brief chase and cordon operation.
Liquor Consignment Seized
During interrogation, the accused identified himself as Vedkumar Verma alias Chhote, son of Mansingh Verma, aged 23 years, resident of village Nagatarai under Dongargarh police station limits.
A search of his possession led to the recovery of 30 quarters of Shole Plain country liquor stored in a yellow plastic sack. Each bottle measured 180 ml, with a total quantity of 5.400 bulk litres of liquor valued at Rs 2,400. The seized liquor was confiscated by the police.
Case Registered Under Excise Act
Upon finding that the accused was illegally selling liquor for financial gain, police registered Crime No. 85/2026 under Section 34(2) of the Excise Act. The accused was formally arrested and later produced before the Hon’ble Court at Dongargarh, which remanded him to judicial custody and sent him to jail.
Police Team Appreciated for Action
The operation was successfully carried out with the commendable contribution of Outpost In-Charge Inspector Yogesh Patel, Assistant Sub-Inspector Birendra Navik, Head Constable No. 727, Woman Head Constable No. 846, Constable No. 1800, and Constable No. 171.
