Collector Reviews Paddy Procurement Preparations, Orders Strict Action Against Middlemen

Meeting held with nodal officers, patwaris, cooperative managers and operators to ensure smooth procurement and curb illegal paddy movement

Ahead of the ongoing paddy procurement season, Collector Shri Jitendra Yadav on Friday chaired a crucial review meeting at the Collectorate conference hall with nodal officers of cooperative societies, patwaris, society managers and operators. The meeting focused on ensuring transparent procurement and preventing illegal paddy trading in the district.

The Collector issued clear instructions to take strict action against kochiyas and middlemen attempting to illegally dispose of paddy. He directed officials to maintain continuous monitoring along inter-state borders to prevent unauthorized transportation of paddy. Emphasising farmer welfare, Shri Yadav said that no farmer should face any inconvenience while selling paddy at procurement centres.

He instructed officials to prioritise the purchase of paddy from small and marginal farmers and stressed the importance of safe handling and proper storage of procured paddy at all procurement centres. The Collector further directed all society managers, officers and staff engaged in procurement work to function in a coordinated and accountable manner.

Shri Yadav also appealed to farmers to immediately inform the administration via phone if they receive any information regarding the involvement of middlemen or illegal traders, assuring them that their identity would be kept confidential.

On the occasion, the Collector honoured three cooperative societies for their outstanding performance in paddy procurement. Certificates of appreciation were presented to Shri Neelkanth Sahu, Manager of Bagrekasa Paddy Procurement Centre; Shri Kundan Sahu, Manager of Kokpur Centre, along with Operator Shri Rojesh Sonkar; and Shri Hukum Sahu, Manager of Chhuria Centre, along with Operator Shri Lokendra.

District Marketing Officer (DMO) Smt. Heena Khan, Assistant Food Officer Shri Dron Kamde, along with nodal officers, society managers, patwaris, operators and other officials were present at the meeting.

Crackdown on Illegal Paddy Trade Intensifies in Rajnandgaon During Kharif Mkting Year 2025–26

Acting on the directions of Collector Jitendra Yadav, district authorities have intensified action against illegal paddy trading by middlemen and agents. In two fresh cases, over 512 quintals of illegal paddy worth nearly ₹16 lakh were seized, taking the total seizure this season to more than ₹8.27 crore.
