Acting on the directions of Collector Shri Jitendra Yadav, the district administration has intensified its crackdown on illegal paddy sales involving kochiyas and middlemen during the Kharif Marketing Year 2025–26. Officials have warned that repeated involvement in illegal paddy trading may also invite criminal proceedings in the coming days.

As part of the ongoing enforcement drive, a joint team of the Revenue, Food and Mandi departments on Saturday seized 400 quintals (1,000 bags) of illegal paddy worth ₹12.40 lakh along with one vehicle in four separate cases. With this, the total seizure in the current marketing year has risen to 25,612.46 quintals (64,031 bags) of illegal paddy valued at ₹7,93,98,626 across 187 cases, along with the confiscation of 19 vehicles.

According to official information, in Rajnandgaon sub-division, 80 quintals (200 bags) of illegal paddy worth ₹2.48 lakh were seized in one case. In Dongargarh sub-division, 300 quintals (750 bags) of illegal paddy worth ₹9.30 lakh along with one vehicle were seized in another case. Meanwhile, in Dongargaon sub-division, 20 quintals (50 bags) of illegal paddy worth ₹62,000 were seized in two cases.

Sub-division-wise data for the entire Kharif Marketing Year 2025–26 shows that Rajnandgaon sub-division has recorded 83 cases involving the seizure of 15,468.80 quintals (38,672 bags) of illegal paddy worth ₹4.79 crore and seven vehicles. Dongargarh sub-division has registered 51 cases with seizures of 4,608.26 quintals (11,521 bags) valued at ₹1.42 crore along with three vehicles. Dongargaon sub-division has reported 53 cases involving 5,535.40 quintals (13,839 bags) of illegal paddy worth ₹1.71 crore and nine vehicles.

The administration has also listed around 1,500 small and large licensed mandi traders in the district. Sub-divisional officers, tehsildars and officials of the Food and Mandi departments have been instructed to conduct inspections and seize illegally stored paddy, ensuring strict action against violators.

To prevent inter-state illegal movement of paddy, three inter-state check posts have been set up at Boratalab, Patekohra and Kallubanjari. Officials from the Mandi, Home Guards, Forest and Revenue departments have been deployed at these checkpoints in three shifts, ensuring round-the-clock monitoring.
