Acting on the instructions of Collector Jitendra Yadav, the district administration continues to tighten its grip on illegal paddy trade. In a major action on Wednesday, a joint team of the Revenue, Food and Mandi Departments seized 820 quintals (2,050 bags) of paddy valued at ₹25.42 lakh.

The operation took place at the Khursipar procurement centre, where a middleman from Semhara village was allegedly attempting to mix summer paddy with the current kharif crop and sell it without having harvested his own produce. The Sub-Divisional Officer (Revenue), Dongargarh, seized the consignment and registered a case.

So far, the administration has taken strict action against middlemen and illegal traders, resulting in the seizure of 1,804 quintals (4,510 bags) of paddy worth ₹55,92,400 and two vehicles. The breakdown of seizures includes:

  • Rajnandgaon Subdivision: 599 quintals (1,500 bags) worth ₹18,56,900
  • Dongargarh Subdivision: 981 quintals (2,452 bags) worth ₹30,41,100
  • Dongargaon Subdivision: 1,804 quintals (4,510 bags) worth ₹55,92,400

Authorities have ordered that all seized paddy and vehicles will be released only after the completion of the procurement season.

Food Officer Ravindra Soni stated that stringent action will continue against middlemen and illegal paddy traders. As many as 1,500 licensed traders across the district have been listed for inspection. Sub-Divisional Officers, Tehsildars, and officials from the Food and Mandi Departments have been instructed to seize illegally stored paddy and take strict action wherever violations are detected.

To curb inter-state illegal paddy inflow, the district has established three interstate check-posts at Bortalaab, Patekohra, and Kallubanjari. Officers from the Mandi, Home Guard, Forest, and Revenue departments have been deployed round-the-clock in three shifts to ensure effective monitoring.
