Chhattisgarh State Food Commission Chairman Sandeep Sharma chaired a comprehensive review meeting at the District Panchayat conference hall on Thursday, examining the functioning of key food-based welfare schemes including the Public Distribution System (PDS), Mid-Day Meal Scheme, Nutrition Programme, and food supply to residential schools and hostels.

Sharma instructed officials to ensure timely storage and distribution of ration at all government fair price shops every month. Emphasising transparent food delivery, he directed shop operators to conduct random weighing of sacks to verify correct quantities received from the warehouses. He stressed that beneficiaries must not face any inconvenience and warned that strict action will be taken against any negligence.

He also directed that fair price shops must maintain separate designated spaces for APL and BPL rice, and that call centre numbers and foodgrain samples be prominently displayed at all outlets.

Reviewing the Mid-Day Meal Scheme, Sharma instructed schools to provide meals strictly as per eligibility norms and maintain proper measuring tools to ensure accurate quantity assessment. He urged continuous evaluation of food materials supplied through self-help groups and asked monitoring committees and school management teams to ensure meals are prepared in the right quantity and quality.

For the Women and Child Development Department, he emphasised proper utilisation of the nutrition tracker, with accurate physical verification of uploaded data. Supervisors were instructed to regularly inspect Anganwadi centres, ensure maintenance of inspection registers, and monitor every child’s nutritional status.

Sharma further directed that in residential schools under the Tribal Welfare Department, the allocated funds must be fully utilised for food arrangements and children’s requirements. He instructed that additional superintendents must mandatorily reside on the hostel premises for effective supervision. Departments have also been asked to display call centre numbers for complaints and suggestions.

The meeting was attended by Food Commission Member Secretary Rajendra Mehilang, Additional CEO Rajeev Jaiswal, Food Officer Ravindra Soni, District Education Officer Pravas Singh Baghel, WCD Programme Officer Gurpreet Kaur, Additional CEO Devendra Kaushik, Assistant Commissioner (Tribal Development) Diksha Gupta, Food Department representative Suraj Dubey, Assistant Food Officer Dron Kamde, and other departmental officials.
