India’s External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar has reiterated New Delhi’s uncompromising stand on terrorism, asserting that safeguarding its citizens from terror threats is India’s sovereign and natural right. He made it clear that India does not require approval or guidance from any external power on how to defend itself.

Speaking on the issue, Dr. Jaishankar said, “We have every right to protect our people from terrorism. No one has the right to tell us what we should do or should not do. How we exercise that right is entirely our decision.”

The minister underlined that India will not hesitate to take all necessary steps to ensure its national security and the safety of its citizens. His remarks reflect India’s firm resolve to act decisively against terrorism, both within its borders and beyond, if required.

Sending a strong message to the international community, Dr. Jaishankar said terrorism cannot be justified under any circumstances. He added that countries or organisations that provide shelter, support or justification to terrorism have no moral authority to lecture others on restraint or ethics.

“When innocent lives are targeted, self-defence is not merely an option, it becomes a responsibility,” the external affairs minister said, reinforcing India’s position that counter-terrorism measures are an essential part of state responsibility.

Dr. Jaishankar further stressed that India will independently determine the steps required to defend itself. “No one can tell us what we should or should not do. We will do whatever is necessary to protect ourselves,” he said.

Political and strategic experts view the statement as a reflection of India’s clear, assertive and self-reliant foreign and security policy. The remarks come at a time when global platforms have often been criticised for applying double standards on the issue of terrorism.

India has consistently called for a zero-tolerance approach towards terrorism and has urged the global community to address the issue without political or geographical bias. Dr. Jaishankar’s statement reinforces that India will not accept external pressure or advice when it comes to matters of national security.

The statement is being seen as a strong articulation of India’s long-standing demand for accountability against terrorism and a clear signal that the country will continue to prioritise the safety of its citizens above all else.
