Location: Rajnandgaon, India

On the auspicious occasion of Goga Navami, Chhappan Bhog was offered to Lord Radha-Krishna at the local Baba Ramdev Temple in Rajnandgaon. The religious programme was followed by special prayers, worship and bhajan-kirtan in the evening.

A large number of devotees participated in the programme and respectfully received the prasad after the religious ceremonies.

The annual event is traditionally organised by the Ramdev Baba and Radha-Krishna Mahila Mandal. Members of the women’s group said that the tradition at Baba Ramdev Temple has continued for nearly 70 to 80 years.

The women said the present generation is carrying forward the same traditional style of bhajan-kirtan and religious observances that their ancestors and elderly women used to follow. The devotional activities continue to be organised in a family-oriented environment, keeping the longstanding religious tradition alive.

Radha-Krishna Worship Becomes Part of Temple Tradition

A Radha-Krishna temple was later constructed within the temple premises. Following its construction, worship of Radha-Krishna became an important part of the religious programmes held at the temple.

Women associated with the Mahila Mandal continue to take an active role in organising bhajan-kirtan and worship. They are carrying forward the tradition within a familial atmosphere while maintaining the customary form of religious observances followed over the years.

Religious Programmes During Sawan

Special prayers and religious programmes are also organised at the temple during the month of Sawan. Throughout the month, bhajan-kirtan is held, followed by the concluding religious programme.

Every year, Chhappan Bhog and prasad are also organised around Raksha Bandhan and Janmashtami. This year too, a large number of devotees reached the temple to seek darshan of Lord Radha-Krishna and Ramapir and receive prasad.

Grand Aarti Creates Devotional Atmosphere

During the programme, a grand aarti of Radha-Krishna and Baba Ramdev Ji was performed. The bhajan-kirtan filled the temple premises with a deeply devotional atmosphere.

Members of the Mahila Mandal conducted the programme in the traditional manner. Devotees appreciated the efforts of the women’s group in preserving and continuing the religious traditions associated with the temple.
