Violence erupts in Bhikrajpur area of Baliapur block during religious procession; administration deploys additional forces and appeals for peace

Tension briefly gripped the Bhikrajpur area under Baliapur block in Jharkhand’s Dhanbad district after incidents of stone pelting were reported during a Ram Navami procession on Thursday evening. Prompt intervention by the police brought the situation under control, while several suspects have been detained for questioning.
According to eyewitnesses, the religious procession was moving peacefully along its designated route at around 5:30 PM when unidentified miscreants allegedly began pelting stones near a sensitive locality. The sudden attack triggered panic among participants, leaving several devotees injured and causing damage to a few vehicles.
Procession Disrupted Amid Sudden Violence
Local residents stated that the Ram Navami procession had been progressing without incident before tensions escalated unexpectedly. Some individuals reportedly attempted to obstruct the procession, following which stone pelting broke out, disrupting the event and forcing participants to disperse temporarily.
Emergency response teams and local volunteers assisted the injured, while authorities quickly moved to prevent further escalation.
Swift Police Action
Upon receiving information about the incident, Baliapur police station personnel along with district police forces rushed to the spot. Security forces dispersed the crowd and restored order within a short period.
Police officials confirmed that several suspects have been taken into custody, although identities have not yet been officially disclosed. Investigators are examining CCTV footage and mobile videos to identify others allegedly involved in the disturbance.
The Superintendent of Police (SP), Dhanbad, stated that the situation is now completely under control.
“Strict action will be taken against anyone found responsible for spreading violence. No individual involved in disturbing communal harmony will be spared,” the SP said.
Administration Appeals for Calm
Following the incident, authorities deployed additional police personnel in the area to maintain law and order. The district administration also urged residents not to pay attention to rumors circulating on social media and warned that strict action would be taken against those spreading misinformation online.

Local public representatives condemned the violence, describing it as unfortunate and unacceptable during a religious celebration. They demanded stringent action against those responsible for the unrest.
Representatives of local Hindu organizations stated that the Ram Navami procession was peaceful and termed the attack condemnable, urging authorities to ensure strict enforcement of law and order.

In the aftermath of the incident, a meeting of the local peace committee was convened. Members from both communities participated and collectively pledged to maintain harmony, discourage rumors, and cooperate with authorities to ensure peace in the region.

Officials confirmed that the situation remains peaceful and under close monitoring. Police continue to investigate the incident and are preparing further legal action against those found guilty.
