To ensure quality antenatal care for pregnant women, special health camps are being organized across Rajnandgaon district on the 9th and 24th of every month under the Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA), a flagship initiative of the Government of India.
The campaign aims to provide free medical check-ups, treatment and counselling to pregnant women, particularly those identified as high-risk cases. The initiative focuses on improving maternal health services and reducing complications during pregnancy through timely diagnosis and medical guidance.
Under the programme, special attention is given to women who had a previous cesarean delivery, experienced miscarriage or stillbirth, have low body weight or height, conceived at a young age, or suffer from severe anemia, high blood pressure, diabetes or other serious illnesses. Such women are advised to undergo sonography examinations and other necessary diagnostic tests to ensure proper monitoring and care during pregnancy.
Following the directions of District Collector Jitendra Yadav, a total of 10 gynecologists will provide their services at various Community Health Centres (CHCs) and Primary Health Centres (PHCs) across the district. The initiative is being implemented with the support of the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Rajnandgaon branch.
As per the schedule, on March 9, specialist services will be provided at several health facilities. Dr. Sujata Vasanik will offer consultations at Community Health Centre Dongargaon, Dr. Vijay Shree Jain at Community Health Centre Dongargarh, and Dr. Surbhi Mohbe at Community Health Centre Somni. Similarly, Dr. Laxmi Bagga will serve at Primary Health Centre Tumdibod, Dr. Amrita Bhadauria at PHC Dumardihkala, Dr. Abhilasha at PHC Surgi, Dr. Hina Chicheria at PHC Arjuni, and Dr. Abhilasha will also provide services at PHC Musrakala.

For the next round of camps scheduled on March 24, 2026, Dr. Ranjita Parakh will be available at Community Health Centre Somni, while Dr. Siddhi Sainik will provide services at Primary Health Centre Tappa, and Dr. Anupama Asthana will attend patients at Primary Health Centre Lal Bahadur Nagar.
Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr. Netram Navratna has appealed to pregnant women across the district to visit their nearest health centres and avail themselves of the services provided under the campaign. He also urged healthcare workers and specialists at primary and community health centres to ensure maximum participation and thorough medical examination of expectant mothers.
To ensure the effectiveness of the campaign, district-level monitoring teams will conduct inspections and visit various health institutions during the camps.
Health officials believe that the successful implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan will play a crucial role in reducing maternal mortality rates and ensuring safe motherhood in the district.
