Officials highlight safe and responsible use of internet, AI and digital platforms; citizens cautioned against online scams

A district-level programme to mark Safe Internet Day was organised at the Collectorate Conference Hall under the chairmanship of Collector Mr. Jitendra Yadav. Officials informed that Safe Internet Day is observed internationally every year on the second Tuesday of February to promote safer and more responsible use of online technology.
During the programme, detailed information was shared on the benefits of internet usage in daily life along with the precautions required to stay safe online. Through a presentation, participants were made aware of how the government uses digital platforms for day-to-day functioning and how citizens can adopt secure practices while using the internet.
Special emphasis was laid on the safe and responsible use of the internet and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Officials also warned citizens about rising cases of fraud through digital payments, e-shopping, e-learning platforms and social media.

Participants were clearly informed that “digital arrest” is a myth and urged not to fall prey to such false claims. The programme highlighted common cyber frauds currently affecting the public, including OTP scams, UPI frauds, phishing attacks, fake SMS messages, malicious APK files, financial frauds, and scams conducted via WhatsApp voice and video calls.
Citizens were advised never to share OTPs with unknown persons, avoid opening unknown APK files, and refrain from sharing personal or sensitive information on social media. Effective methods to protect oneself from online scams were explained in detail to enhance public awareness.
Senior officials present on the occasion included Chief Executive Officer, Zila Panchayat Ms. Suruchi Singh, Additional Collectors Mr. C. L. Markandey and Mr. Prem Prakash Sharma, Municipal Corporation Commissioner Mr. Atul Vishwakarma, SDM Dongargarh Mr. M. Bhargav, SDM Dongargaon Mr. Shrikant Koram, SDM Mr. Gautam Patil, Deputy Collector and In-charge Officer, District e-Governance Society Mr. Aniket Sahu, and Assistant Manager, District e-Governance Society Mr. Ashish Swarnakar, along with other officers.
Officials reiterated that continuous public awareness is essential to ensure a safe digital environment and protect citizens from cyber threats.
