Accelerating revenue collection before the close of the financial year, Rajnandgaon Municipal Corporation has launched strict action against defaulters. As part of the drive, 10 shops at the Bhaisakotha commercial complex were sealed for failure to deposit outstanding premium and shop rent and for not vacating the premises even after issuance of notices.

Municipal officials stated that shopkeepers had been served multiple notices earlier. However, due to continued non-compliance, the civic body’s enforcement team carried out the sealing operation on Thursday.

Municipal Corporation Seals 10 Shops at Bhaisakotha Complex Over Dues Bhaisakotha Complex

Out of the 17 shops constructed in the complex, 10 had earlier been auctioned in accordance with procedures, and the proposal was forwarded to the state government for approval by the competent authority. Subsequently, considering the prolonged process, the Collector cancelled the proposal and directed the occupants to vacate the shops. Despite these instructions, the premises were not vacated, prompting the sealing action. Illegal occupation was also found in three of the sealed shops.

Municipal Commissioner Atul Vishwakarma is personally monitoring the revenue department’s activities on a daily basis and has directed officials to ensure 100 per cent recovery. Under the leadership of Revenue Officer Rajesh Tiwari, notices are being issued to major defaulters, and preparations are underway for stricter action in case of continued non-payment.

The Commissioner said that revenue collection in line with government targets is mandatory. He added that action will also be taken to disconnect water connections of major defaulters of property tax, water tax and consolidated tax.

Appealing to taxpayers, Vishwakarma urged them to deposit outstanding taxes and rent on time to avoid penalties and coercive action by the corporation.

Notably, a day earlier, shops at the Hi-Tech Bus Stand on Jail Road were also locked for failure to deposit premium amounts.

During the operation, Revenue Inspector Hitesh Thakur, Revenue Sub-Inspector Ravindra Thakur, Rajkumar Banjare and other municipal staff were present.
