Rajnandgaon, considered a VIP constituency due to its association with former Chief Minister and current Assembly Speaker Dr. Raman Singh, is witnessing increasing public dissatisfaction over the deplorable state of its roads. While the region has seen significant development projects during Dr. Singh’s tenure, road infrastructure remains a critical concern.
The Raveli–Torankatta road, once a vital route for daily commuters and local villagers, has now become a hazard. Massive potholes have made commuting risky, especially with the monsoon season approaching. Residents report frequent near-accidents and vehicular damage, with some even avoiding the road altogether.
Similar complaints have been raised about the Singhola–Bhothipar Khurd and Usribod–Shivnath River routes, which become nearly impassable during rains. Locals claim these roads are not even fit for walking when waterlogging and mud dominate the paths.

Repeated appeals to local authorities and the Public Works Department (PWD) have gone unanswered. According to area residents, no official response or assurance of repair work has been provided despite numerous written and verbal complaints. The silence of responsible departments and local governing bodies has only intensified public frustration.
“Being the Speaker’s constituency, we expected better infrastructure,” said one resident. “But the condition of our roads tells a different story.”
Locals have directly appealed to Dr. Raman Singh, urging him to take swift action before the situation worsens. They warn that continued neglect could result in public protests or larger demonstrations.
As of now, no concrete response has been issued by PWD or district administration officials. With the monsoon around the corner, the urgency of the situation is escalating.
