Rajnandgaon district has recorded a significant achievement under the Rabi 2025–26 Seed Production Programme by surpassing its registration target. Against a prescribed target of 1,000 hectares, seed production has been registered over 1,146 hectares, representing a 65 percent increase compared to last year’s coverage of 750 hectares.
Deputy Director of Agriculture Mr Tikam Singh Thakur informed that certified seed production of pulse and oilseed crops has been accorded priority under the programme. The Agriculture Department prepared a systematic action plan focusing on farmer awareness and strengthening self-reliance in seed production across the district.

He said agriculture officers and field staff played an active role in making the programme successful by providing regular technical guidance and training to farmers, while also simplifying the registration process. As a result, a large number of farmers voluntarily participated in the seed production initiative, contributing to the achievement of targets beyond expectations.
Officials noted that the benefits of this programme will be visible in the upcoming Rabi season, with adequate availability of certified pulse and oilseed seeds at the local level. The initiative is expected to reduce dependence on external sources, ensure timely access to high-quality seeds for farmers, and help Rajnandgaon move towards self-sufficiency in seed availability.

The success of the programme is also likely to encourage expansion in pulse and oilseed cultivation, while supporting water conservation and crop diversification, marking an important step towards sustainable agricultural development in the district.
