Pre-Monsoon Drive Intensified Across the City; Water Supply Restored After Technical Fault at Mohara Water Treatment Plant
Civic Body Appeals to Residents to Support Cleanliness, Protect Public Assets and Conserve Green Spaces

The Rajnandgaon Municipal Corporation has intensified sanitation, drainage improvement, road maintenance, plantation protection, and urban beautification works across the city, prioritizing civic infrastructure and public convenience ahead of the monsoon season. Acting on complaints and suggestions received from citizens, Municipal Commissioner Atul Vishwakarma has directed concerned departments to undertake prompt corrective measures.
Sanitation and Drainage Operations in Full Swing
The municipal health department has been carrying out regular cleaning operations beneath flyovers and across various wards of the city. Dry leaves and debris scattered due to recent storms and strong winds have been removed to ensure cleanliness and public safety.
As part of the pre-monsoon preparedness campaign, small and major drains throughout the city are being cleaned using dedicated sanitation teams and JCB machines. Following the completion of the first phase of cleaning, the second phase is currently underway. Priority cleaning operations are also being carried out in drainage channels within the Collectorate premises, where accumulated leaves and storm debris had caused blockages.
Drainage cleaning work is also being undertaken in waterlogging-prone localities, including Doctor Colony, Baldev Bagh and other affected areas. The Municipal Corporation has further proposed action to remove encroachments obstructing drains and water flow.
Road Maintenance and Repair Work Planned
The Municipal Corporation has proposed resurfacing and asphalting of several roads, including the Stationpara-to-Railway Station road and other deteriorated stretches across the city. Road repair activities have been temporarily affected due to the unavailability of asphalt materials. Notices have been issued to concerned contractors directing them to commence work at the earliest.
As soon as asphalt becomes available, patchwork and repair works will begin. Relevant agencies have also been instructed to improve road conditions on the Mohara-Singdai Road, the service road near the Collectorate Garden, Gaurav Path, and other key locations. Proposals for the construction of CC roads and drainage systems in various wards have been sought from elected councillors and forwarded to the government for approval.
Focus on Green Spaces and Plant Protection
Special attention is being given to the preservation of plants and green spaces throughout the city. Trees and plants planted along dividers and public areas are being watered regularly through water tankers to protect them from summer heat.
Leaning saplings in the Collectorate premises and other locations are being restored and secured, while necessary pruning of large trees is also being undertaken. Suitable sites are currently being identified for extensive plantation drives during the upcoming rainy season.
Beautification Projects to Gain Momentum
Proposals for the beautification of major intersections, public squares and road dividers have been submitted to the government. Work will commence following administrative approval.
The government budget has also made provisions for the beautification of the Rani Sagar and Budha Sagar areas, where incidents of vandalism by anti-social elements had previously resulted in damage and subsequent FIRs. The repair process for the iconic Lakshman Jhula has also been initiated and the structure is expected to be reopened soon.
Water Supply and Power Services Restored
A technical fault at a 33/11 KV substation caused by recent storms and rainfall had disrupted electricity supply to the Mohara Water Treatment Plant, affecting water distribution in parts of the city. The fault was rectified promptly, enabling restoration of power supply.
Following the restoration of electricity, overhead water tanks were refilled and regular water supply resumed. Streetlights along the Mohara service road, which had stopped functioning due to a short circuit, have also been repaired by the Municipal Corporation’s electrical wing.

Special Drive Planned to Control Stray Dogs
The Municipal Corporation has prepared a special action plan to address the issue of aggressive and rabid stray dogs. Officials stated that immediate action is taken whenever reports of dangerous stray dogs are received. The initiative has gained urgency following a recent incident reported in the Sun City area.
Action Against Encroachments, Illegal Advertisements and Littering
Individuals dumping waste on vacant plots and construction sites are being counselled, while property owners have also been urged to maintain cleanliness in their premises. Notices and penalties have been issued against those displaying unauthorized advertisements.
The Corporation has intensified surveillance against anti-social elements responsible for damaging public dustbins and other civic infrastructure.
Complaint Verification and Development Initiatives
A committee will be constituted to investigate complaints related to the Assistant Grade-II recruitment process in the Municipal Corporation. In a separate matter concerning allegations of blockage of a public pathway, Commissioner Atul Vishwakarma personally inspected the site and directed verification of land records before further action is taken.
Municipal officials also stated that commercial shops constructed by the Corporation were allotted through a transparent auction process. Shops remaining non-operational have been served notices, and if required, allotments may be cancelled and the properties re-auctioned in accordance with regulations.
Citizens Urged to Cooperate
The Municipal Corporation has appealed to residents to actively support efforts to keep Rajnandgaon clean and beautiful by protecting public assets, avoiding the disposal of waste into drains, and assisting in the conservation of plants and green spaces. Officials also assured that suggestions received regarding the construction of immersion tanks would be examined positively.
