Joint Operation by Ghumka Police and Cyber Cell Foils Illegal Narcotics Transportation

Police achieved a major success in their ongoing crackdown against illegal transportation of narcotic substances in the district by arresting a युवक and recovering a large quantity of ganja during a joint operation conducted by Ghumka Police Station and the Cyber Police Station team.
Tip-Off Leads to Police Action
According to information received, on May 4, 2026, police got a tip-off from an informer that a person was transporting illegal ganja on a motorcycle via the Durg–Somni road towards Mudpar through Kaldabri.
Acting on the information, a special team was constituted under the direction of Superintendent of Police Ankita Sharma.
Joint Team Sets Up Checking Point
Under the supervision of Additional Superintendent of Police Kirtan Rathore and City Superintendent of Police Vaishali Jain, and guidance of Sub-Divisional Police Officer Dongargaon Manjulata Baj, a checking point was established at Gram Kaldabri (Daswan Mile Chowk).
The operation was led by Ghumka Station In-Charge Vijay Mishra and Cyber Police Station In-Charge Vinay Pammar.
Accused Attempts Escape, Nabbed by Police
During checking, a white-blue Bajaj Pulsar motorcycle (CG 13 AS 1229) matching the informer’s description was spotted approaching the checkpoint. On noticing the police presence, the rider attempted to flee but was apprehended after a swift police cordon.
14.520 Kg Ganja Recovered
Upon search, police recovered seven packets containing a total of 14 kilograms and 520 grams of ganja from the accused’s backpack. The estimated value of the seized narcotics is approximately ₹1.45 lakh.
Police also seized the motorcycle and a mobile phone, taking the total value of confiscated property to about ₹2.02 lakh.
Case Registered Under NDPS Act
The arrested accused was identified as Damesh Sahu (21), a resident of Mudpar under Ghumka police station limits. A case has been registered against him under Crime No. 54/2026 under Section 20(b)(ii)(b) of the NDPS Act, and further investigation is underway.
The accused was produced before the court and subsequently sent to jail on judicial remand.
Police officials stated that the coordinated efforts of Ghumka Police Station and Cyber Police Station Rajnandgaon played a commendable role in the successful operation.
