The PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana is emerging as a transformative initiative, enabling citizens to adopt clean, affordable energy while significantly reducing household electricity expenses. In Rajnandgaon district, two Gram Panchayat Secretaries have become inspiring examples by installing rooftop solar power systems at their homes and encouraging others to embrace renewable energy.
Village Panchayat Secretaries lead by example
Mr. Ramlakhan Mandavi, Secretary of Gram Panchayat Rampur under Janpad Panchayat Chhuria, installed a 3-kilowatt rooftop solar power plant at his residence under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.
He said he completed the online application through the scheme’s portal and received the required approval from the electricity department. After authorization, an approved vendor installed the rooftop solar plant along with a net meter at his home.
Under the scheme, he received a combined subsidy of ₹1.08 lakh from the Central and State Governments, substantially reducing the installation cost.
Mr. Mandavi said the solar system now fulfills most of his household’s electricity requirements, leading to considerable monthly savings on electricity bills. He also benefits from net metering, which allows surplus electricity generated by the solar panels to be exported to the grid for additional financial returns.
He described the scheme as not only economically beneficial but also an important step toward promoting clean, green energy and protecting the environment.

Simple and transparent process encourages adoption
Similarly, Mr. Arjun Singh Thakur, Secretary of Gram Panchayat Jondhara, has also installed a 3-kilowatt rooftop solar plant at his residence.
He said the entire process—from online application and departmental approval to installation by an authorized vendor—was simple, transparent, and hassle-free.
Like Mr. Mandavi, he also received ₹1.08 lakh in combined financial assistance from the Central and State Governments under the scheme. Expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, he said the initiative has significantly reduced his electricity expenses while encouraging the use of renewable energy.
Mr. Thakur appealed to citizens to take advantage of the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana and move toward energy self-reliance by adopting rooftop solar systems.
Driving clean energy and self-reliance
The PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana is helping households across Chhattisgarh reduce electricity costs while contributing to environmental conservation. Success stories such as those of Mr. Ramlakhan Mandavi and Mr. Arjun Singh Thakur demonstrate how the scheme is encouraging individuals to embrace sustainable energy solutions and inspiring communities to move toward a greener, energy-secure future.
