Swift action by Chikhli police leads to arrest of 19-year-old accused who allegedly confessed during interrogation

Police in Rajnandgaon have arrested a 19-year-old man in connection with the alleged rape of a minor girl. The accused was produced before a court and has been sent to judicial custody following his arrest.
According to police officials, the case came to light on March 15, 2026, when a woman submitted a written complaint at Chikhli Police Outpost alleging that her minor daughter had been sexually assaulted by a local youth identified as Bhavesh Kumar Samrit.
Taking the complaint seriously, police registered a case under Section 65(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita along with Sections 4, 5(M) and 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 (POCSO Act), and immediately began an investigation.
Police Launch Swift Operation
Upon receiving information about the incident, Superintendent of Police Ankita Sharma directed the police to take prompt action. The operation was conducted under the guidance of Additional Superintendent of Police Kirtan Rathore and supervision of City Superintendent of Police Vaishali Jain.
A police team led by the Chikhli outpost in-charge launched a search operation and soon located the accused.

Accused Arrested and Sent to Jail
The accused, identified as Bhavesh Kumar Samrit alias “Kukku,” a resident of Bajrangpur Navagaon Ward No. 2 under the Chikhli outpost area, was taken into custody for questioning. During interrogation, police said he admitted to the crime.
Following the interrogation, he was formally arrested and presented before the court, which remanded him to judicial custody.
Police Team Involved in the Operation
The operation involved Sub-Inspector Kailash Chandra Marei, head constable Vandana Patle, head constable Arun Kumar Netam, constables Aditya Solanki, Sunil Bairagi, Chandrakapur Ayam, Gopal Paikra, Nageshwar Sahu and woman constable Renuka Rajput along with other staff members of the Chikhli outpost.
Police officials stated that further investigation into the case is ongoing.
