The Municipal Corporation in Rajnandgaon carried out a major encroachment removal drive from Mamta Nagar to Motipur on Sunday as part of its ongoing effort to keep city roads clear and ensure smooth movement of traffic.

The action was conducted under the direction of Municipal Commissioner Atul Vishwakarma, who has constituted a special enforcement team to regularly inspect areas where illegal encroachments, roadside stalls, temporary structures and debris obstruct public movement and sanitation.

During the drive, officials removed several handcarts, roadside kiosks and unauthorized extensions that had encroached upon public spaces. Additional sheds, stairs and raised platforms constructed outside shops were also demolished with the help of a JCB machine.

Action Taken to Improve Traffic and Cleanliness

Municipal officials stated that encroachments on roads and drains not only obstruct traffic but also create hurdles in maintaining cleanliness and increase the risk of accidents. Keeping these concerns in mind, the commissioner had directed the corporation’s building officials and encroachment removal team to conduct inspections and take action against unauthorized constructions.

Following these instructions, the municipal team inspected several locations across the city and acted on complaints related to illegal occupation of public spaces. Vendors operating handcarts were advised to shift to designated areas and operate their mobile carts along the roadside without blocking traffic.

Commissioner Supervises Drive

Municipal Commissioner Atul Vishwakarma personally monitored the operation and appealed to residents and shopkeepers to cooperate with the civic administration.

He said the drive was undertaken keeping in mind the convenience of pilgrims expected to visit the city during the upcoming Navratri festival, as well as the need to maintain cleanliness under the national sanitation ranking initiative.

Officials noted that several residents voluntarily removed their encroachments during the drive after being advised by the municipal authorities.

Campaign to Continue in Other Areas

The commissioner warned that the anti-encroachment campaign will continue in other parts of the city as well. Shopkeepers and citizens have been urged not to place stalls, carts or goods on roads and public squares, as such activities disrupt traffic and can lead to accidents.

He also cautioned that debris, construction material or other items should not be placed on roads, as they contribute to congestion and unhygienic conditions.

Those who fail to remove encroachments voluntarily may face action by the municipal corporation, including removal without prior notice and imposition of fines.

The operation was carried out in the presence of Sub-Engineer Tilak Raj Dhruv, Assistant Garden In-charge Dilip Giri Goswami, Patwari Milind Reddy, Ganesh Jha and other municipal staff.
