Bastar Set to Host National Athletics Events from March 30; Tribal Culture Takes Center Stage Alongside Sporting Excellence

Chhattisgarh has become the first state in the country to host the prestigious Khelo India Tribal Games, marking a significant milestone in promoting tribal empowerment and grassroots participation in Indian sports. As part of the national event, athletics competitions will be held at the Dharampura Sports Complex in Jagdalpur from March 30 to April 2.

The arrival of athletes has officially begun, with the Kerala athletics team reaching Jagdalpur on Friday to participate in the upcoming competitions. The 17-member contingent arrived via the Kirandul Passenger train and received a warm welcome at Jagdalpur Railway Station by officials from the Sports and Youth Welfare Department.

Traditional Bastar Welcome for Athletes

Highlighting Bastar’s rich cultural heritage, local folk artists greeted the visiting players with vibrant traditional performances. The renowned Gaur dance troupe performed energetic folk dances accompanied by rhythmic drum beats, creating a festive atmosphere that instantly captivated the athletes and spectators alike.

The cultural reception not only showcased Bastar’s artistic traditions but also reflected the region’s spirit of hospitality, helping athletes overcome travel fatigue and feel at home ahead of the competition.

National Sporting Festival Gains Momentum

With the four-day national athletics competition approaching, excitement in Jagdalpur is steadily building. Athletes from across India have begun arriving to compete in the Tribal Games, which aim to provide a dedicated national platform for indigenous sports talent.

Officials stated that the event represents a unique opportunity to identify and nurture tribal athletes while encouraging youth participation in organized sports.

According to the Sports Department, all arrangements for the event have been finalized. Accommodation, food, medical assistance, transportation, and security measures have been ensured for participating athletes and officials arriving from different states.
