Garden in Full Bloom Despite Summer Heat
Rajnandgaon, May 15, 2026: The Government Horticulture Nursery located at Pendri is presenting a refreshing sight even during the harsh summer season, as its garden remains vibrant with blooming flowers and lush greenery. The nursery has become a peaceful and attractive destination filled with a wide collection of plant species that bring joy and relaxation to visitors.
Several varieties of mango trees including Amrapali, Langra, Dasheri, Chausa and Bombay Green are currently laden with fruits, enhancing the beauty of the premises. The rich greenery and organized plantation showcase the nursery’s importance as a major horticultural resource centre in the district.

Advanced Seedling Production Supporting Farmers
One of the most significant features of the nursery is the Plug-Type Vegetable Seedling Production Unit, where seedlings are prepared using Japanese cultivation techniques. Through controlled moisture, temperature, and light conditions, seeds are developed into healthy saplings known locally as tharha, making it easier for farmers to obtain uniform and disease-free plants.
At present, seedlings of the Yogi Namdhari chilli variety are being produced. Farmers are also providing their own seeds for nursery raising. The renovation of the seedling unit has been completed through District Mineral Foundation (DMF) funds, enabling the facility to resume large-scale seedling production for farmers.

A Rich and Prosperous Nursery
The Government Horticulture Nursery Pendri has evolved into a well-developed and resource-rich nursery offering a wide range of grafted, hybrid, and seed-grown plants for sale. Available varieties include:
- Fruit plants such as mango, guava, orange, amla, litchi, pomegranate, papaya, coconut, chikoo, and hybrid drumstick.
- Ornamental and flowering plants including Ashoka, Champa, Gulmohar, Harsingar, Bottle Brush, Bougainvillea, Rose, Rajnigandha, Gerbera, Kaner, Allamanda, and Money Plant.
- Shade and landscape trees like Peepal, Kadam, Silver Oak, and various decorative species.
The diversity of plants available makes the nursery a valuable centre for farmers, gardeners, and landscaping enthusiasts alike.

Modern Technology Without Soil Usage
Under the automatic seedling production system, soil is not used. Instead, materials such as coconut coir, perlite, and vermiculite provide an ideal growth medium. Seeds are developed through a machinery-based swing method in a controlled environment.
The unit produces seedlings for crops including tomato, brinjal, cabbage, cauliflower, cucumber, bitter gourd, pumpkin, and bottle gourd. Even under adverse weather conditions, nurseries can be prepared successfully due to the controlled growing environment.
Healthy, Uniform and High-Yield Plants

The plug-type seedling technology offers multiple benefits:
- Controlled germination environment
- Uniform and disease-free plants
- Reduced seed requirement per acre
- Proper root development for transplantation
- Higher plant survival rate after field transplanting
- Early fruiting and uniform crop growth
These advantages are helping farmers improve productivity while reducing cultivation risks.
Strengthening Horticulture Development
The flourishing Government Horticulture Nursery Pendri demonstrates how modern horticulture practices combined with scientific techniques can support farmers and promote green development. By providing quality planting material and advanced nursery technology, the centre is playing a vital role in strengthening horticulture activities across Rajnandgaon district.
